Wood paneling... to paint or not to paint

Our recently purchased home was built in the 70’s. It is double wall construction and the wood panels have been well maintained. I believe they are a veneer.

I’m thinking of keeping the wood panels in the living room just to maintain some of the character of the original home but painting the dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms.

Also, the dining room/ kitchen has the poorest amount of natural light and the prior owner installed terrible light fixtures which I’ll likely change. So my reasoning for painting that area is to brighten and freshen the space.

Would it look strange to have the dining room and the living room look so different?

I need to decide ASAP since I’m 38 weeks pregnant and if painting is to be done, needs to happen quickly so I can start moving in all our things!

Thanks in advance
