Comments (8)Scissors, you bet I thank them! I grew up with a father that plowed snow for the county. Many holidays were spent without him. I am careful to give all road crews, not just snow plows, plenty of room, and slow down for them. We are very spoiled. When dad first started with the county, they only put cinders on the intersections and hills. They didn't start plowing until there was 4" of snow on the roads. They didn't have salt when he first started. Then they would put just a little salt in with the cinders. Now, if they don't salt and plow right away, everyone has a fit, and doesn't know how to slow down and drive. Mind you, going toooooo slow is also dangerous. Remember to gently pump your brakes instead of slaming them on to stop, keep a bigger distance between you and the other vehicles, ect. Comments (25)I work New Year's Eve and day, double time pay. Yeah!! In fact, I went through about half the year's schedule for 2008 and signed up to work every holiday and will finish once my last week of leave is approved. New Year's eve we are having a little "party" at work, basically eating chili and finger foods. I've never gone out for New Year's Eve, ever. When I was growing up we always had whole crab on New Year's day and stayed up till midnight the night before watching Dick Clark. This is actually the comment that bothered me the most: "Maybe the gal has a 'problem' and has frequent accidents. Maybe that's why it's in hubby's name. She could have lost all she already had, and he don't want to lose any more." My husband and I carpool to work every day. He drives, we go to his office and he gets out and then I drive to my office. I pay $100 per month for parking (it's $175 per month to park near my husband's office). At the end of the day I drive to his office to get him, but he usually drives home. However, there are plenty of times when I go to an appointment during the workday, or run errands at lunch, etc., when I am alone in the car, so I am clearly driving my husband's car. If, Heaven forbid, I should get into an accident, I guess Leslie would think less of me because I'd be driving hubs' car, not my own. And Liz's comment confuses me, too. "All of our cars are registered in both of our names...as well as insurance...we just list me first on mine and him first on his...so we don't have to license 3 cars in the same month...mine gets licensed in August and his get licensed in April! (our birthday months)" Here in California, the month in which you have to pay the registration fee on your car has nothing to do with your birth month. It's an annual renewal based upon the month in which you first registered the vehicle. Comments (30)Back in the good old days, we always had a NYE party, either at our house or at a friend's. It was always the same "social circle" of friends. Played games, had great food, no alcohol. Stayed up to watch the ball drop, get our kiss, and sing Auld Lang Syne. Five of that group have passed on now, and most of us remaining have health problems of some kind. So I will be home alone, but I am a night person and always stay up to watch the ball drop. Earlier in the day I will be making Black-Eyed Pea soup. Gotta have BEPs for New Year's Day. I was given the recipe last year by a new friend and I really like it. Makes a lot, so I put some in containers in the freezer for later. Sue...See More- 5 years ago
