Comments (8)Scissors, you bet I thank them! I grew up with a father that plowed snow for the county. Many holidays were spent without him. I am careful to give all road crews, not just snow plows, plenty of room, and slow down for them. We are very spoiled. When dad first started with the county, they only put cinders on the intersections and hills. They didn't start plowing until there was 4" of snow on the roads. They didn't have salt when he first started. Then they would put just a little salt in with the cinders. Now, if they don't salt and plow right away, everyone has a fit, and doesn't know how to slow down and drive. Mind you, going toooooo slow is also dangerous. Remember to gently pump your brakes instead of slaming them on to stop, keep a bigger distance between you and the other vehicles, ect. Happy New Years Tami...See MoreNew Year's Eve plans anyone?

So sorry for those of you who are fighting colds/flu and other illnesses, That is not the way you would hope to start the year! bpathome-we had boeuf bourgignon too! We served it with roasted vegetables and crusty French bread. As is typical, we had so many appetizers that we grazed all night. hhireno-I had to laugh at your comment about wishing you had more of those yummy little treats to start today. I made eggnog French toast with the left-over French bread and topped it off with left-over whippped cream and fresh raspberries (from last night's trifle). Then we had an extra bottle of Prosecco, so we "had" to make Mimosa's to go with it! Decadent for sure, but so yummy! We used to go to First Night in Boston, first b/k and then with kiddo's. Now we prefer to lay low in town and have friends over. We are on the Cape for a few days to relax and recharge. Comments (39)Lol, the oliebollen also sound like Jewish sufganiyah, a fried jam filled treat served for Hanukkah. We usually stay at home, off the road on New Year's eve. We will have our Sprites over for the night so that their g'pa can have a small adult gathering next door. We will go over for a little while to enjoy some of his delicious munchies and to let the girls mingle for a bit. They are great in grown up company, and they like G'pa's friends. But they are very happy to stay with us for the night. We'll play games, have a snack, they'll take their shower and get into their new flannels. Their goal is to stay up until midnight, heh heh heh. Comments (25)We like go to the Metropolitan Opera for New Year's Eve, have dinner there beforehand at their Grand Tier restaurant, coming back for desserts that they time to be ready at intermission. They also have a gala but we don't usually do that; that occurs after the opera. Depending, sometimes we come home after and toast midnight then, sometimes we toast in town with friends, sometimes we stay over. It is pretty much a tradition, since I think NYE is a pretty lame holiday, but we have missed it in years where we were travelling and sometimes if we do not care for the opera that night we do something else. It is very festive though and DH wears his tux (but you see people in everything from luxe to boho at the opera). We took the kids a year or so ago and they loved getting all dressed up and especially trying shaved white truffle over their risotto. They have been exposed to opera their whole lives so they are all used to it (i get that it takes some ...acculturation? ...). My DS is the only true enthusiast among the kids, my other DDs like some of it but not all of it; but then they like the dressing up part!...See More- 5 years ago
