Thanks for the link Annie, I checked it out, and as of the date of that article, Seminis did sell to Territorial and Johnny's as well as Fedco. It could be that a couple of the brassicas I just bought from Fedco, as well as the Lollo Rosa lettuce from Burpee could have come from Seminis. I will have to call the companies and check. A short snippet from the article Annie posted: " Taking spinach into his own hands: Nash Huber doesnâÂÂt want to get stuck depending on a hybrid that might get dropped by a mega-company owner on a whim. He also doesnâÂÂt want to lose any of the vigor, disease resistance, etc. that hybrid has provided. So Nash is working on dehybridizing " breeding an open-pollinated spinach that is well adapted to his needs. (pictured: Huber, left; Matthew Dillon, right) Posted February 22, 2005: The news of MonsantoâÂÂs agreement to purchase Seminis has received little attention from the media other than the financial pages and a few seed industry and anti-globalization web sites. But then again, why should it? How many consumers " of food or seed " have even heard of Seminis? And yet, as Seminis spinmeister Gary Koppenjan said, âÂÂIf you've had a salad, you've had a Seminis product." It is estimated that Seminis controls 40 percent of the U.S. vegetable seed market and 20 percent of the world market"supplying the genetics for 55 percent of the lettuce on U.S. supermarket shelves, 75 percent of the tomatoes, and 85 percent of the peppers, with strong holdings in beans, cucumbers, squash, melons, broccoli, cabbage, spinach and peas. The companyâÂÂs biggest revenue source comes from tomato and peppers seeds, followed by cucumbers and beans. In large part, these numbers reflect usage of Seminis varieties within large industrial production geared towards supermarkets, but Seminis seeds are also widely used by regional conventional and organic farmers as well as market and home gardeners. JohnnyâÂÂs, Territorial, Fedco, NicholâÂÂs, Rupp, Osborne, Snow, and Stokes are among the dozens of commercial and garden seed catalogs that carry the more than 3,500 varieties that comprise Seminisâ offerings. This includes dozens of All-American Selections and an increasing number of varieties licensed to third parties for certified organic seed production. The brand-name companies under Seminis (such as Petoseed) have developed, released, produced and distributed varieties common to the market farmer and even home gardener. These include Big Beef, Sweet Baby Girl and Early Girl Tomatoes; Simpsons Elite and Red Sails Lettuces; Red Knight and King Arthur Peppers; Gold Rush and Blackjack Zucchinis; Stars & Stripes Melon; and Bush Delicata and Early Butternut squashes (see sidebar for other popular varieties)." So home gardeners DO have to check their seed, these are very popular varieties though the article is NOT saying that these...

So, it's not tomorrow, but my camera batteries died...what can I say? Here's my loot from Whole Foods: Pita chips, balsamic, olive oil, my favorite Braggs apple cider vinegar, sunflower oil, 6-in-1 tomatoes and Muir Glen tomatoes, turbinado raw sugar, crystallized ginger chips, black olives (all natural, no lye), kalamata olives, blue cheese stuffed greek olives, red pepper stuffed green olives, old bay, a cork style cutting board made from bamboo, spelt and buckwheat to mill into my own flour and short grain brown rice. I know dirtgirl said the rice wasn't impressive, but I was out of brown rice anyway so picked some up! Oh, and a Whole Foods insulated bag. Also bought a $.99 recycled bag in bright colors for my daughter and she absconded with it before the photo! And I completely forgot about ketchup. Not pictured: Parmigiano-Reggiano, a hard goat cheese and a fantastic caved-aged whole milk gouda! YUM!! Can't remember the brand, but geez, I could have spent all day tasting and reading about the different cheeses! DH had other ideas. :-) We there at 8:45 in the morning, so much of their hot foods and deli items weren't even out yet. Thanks for all the advice. I would stop again just for the cheese. It's "right on the way" to my mom's house so would be a fun place to pick up some special things for visiting/gifting! Deanna (who's glad they aren't closer...I think.)

Well, that's a concept. If you shred your own cheddar, you won't have to figure out how to store the annoying bags. About a month ago, I started revisiting how I eat and what I eat. So many posts on this forum talked about actual cooking, how and where folks are going to store and eat actual food. My DH travels a lot at the moment, and I realized my food consumption had devolved to pastries, wheat thins and cheese, and...if he was home, some protein and veggies at dinner. My diet was balanced because I ate several kinds of pastries. :) I've been sober for seven years, but I realized my eating was totally addictive and mindless. Physically I'm pretty active with our little "ranch", so that helped counterbalance, I think, but I began reworking the other side of the equation, what and how I eat. Our CSA started back up at just the right time. Anyway, after beacham's condiment post, I cleaned out our refrigerator and noticed the cheese kind of sprawled out on the top shelf, being ignored. I think a plastic bin on a shelf is still the best answer for us and I'll look for the correct size.

I always find these type of lists fun, fascinating, head-scratching. How they are decided. The LED lighting company that put it together....can't figure out how they came up with the list. Went down the rabbit hole that is 'google trends' for 2020. Tried various key words but 'recipe' gave the best results. I did global, then the US, then by state, county, city, even by week throughout the year. I went to France, the UK, Ireland, Greece, Italy. Must be a 'key word' I'm missing. Did not see corn cakes, grilled cheese, or fried chicken anywhere. -Global on the left, US on the right. Would be interesting to compare 2019 and 2020. Doubt we would see as much bread/sourdough. State-by-state I saw much more pizza, stews, breads. Nice to get a top ten, rather than just one. (the whipped coffee was a tik-tok viral thing.) Sugar, cream, and instant coffee. Ick. We did not change much but did try something new at least once a week. 52 weeks in a year so that was fun. Twice a week at least, a grain/bean or noodle veg bowl. Went through 4 pounds of white miso and gallons of bone/veg broth. Lots of eggs. Seafood, lamb. The ultimate comfort would be the great American burger, and a Salmon, Avocado BLT. Proscuitto bacon. DH would add merquez lamb sausage to the ultimate comfort. Having that tonight in a roasted halved spaghetti squash. New 2020 comforts would be salmon cakes. Now at least once a month. And shrimp-n-grits. If I had to pick just one....three farm eggs, cracked whole, low heat, slow stir so the eggs do not scramble, variegated. Dill and a bit of fluffy parm/romano. DH would say anchovy's, garlic, parm/romano over egg pasta, wide noodles. Comfort together?...the burger. And the BLT....and scrapple, 😂 But we can't get that here. The lighting LED people's conclusion, "...What else makes comfort food even better? When you’re eating it under led lighting that’s designed to make everything under them look better. Our products are designed to deliver superb color quality and complete controllability so not only does your comfort food taste good, it looks good too....
