December hoop house harvest in Michigan

Here in Michigan, it's winter. High of 29 and low of 12 projected for tomorrow. My turnips, beets, purple bok choi, and some lettuces and mache have been happily living in the little "hoop houses" that Elery built over a couple of raised beds, barely shivering. Yesterday we got a really heavy wet snow and the hoop houses collapsed. I went out today and fixed them as well as I could, and decided it was a good time to harvest.


I got some nice small turnips. They are so sweet and mild that we decided to eat them raw and not even cook them. The biggest are about the size of a golf ball, the others are the size of my thumbnail:
