We have the "V2" version combo wall-oven and microwave (JMW3430), installed a bit over a month ago. We really like it so far, although we haven't begun to use many of the features. The main oven has a dual-fan convection system, and the upper microwave can also be used as a convection oven, as it has a heating element besides the microwave. We thought about getting separate units, instead of a combo, but the slightly lesser total height of the combo unit allowed us to fit a warming drawer underneath. I'm not too worried about the "need to replace the whole thing" issue, as I'm usually more inclined to repair something instead of replace. It seems to me that the Whirlpool units have fewer features, but that the corresponding KitchenAid models are not that different. (Our prior unit was a Whirlpool combo oven/microwave, that lasted roughly 19 years, although it did need a controller board replacement at one point, maybe 7 or 8 years ago.) My other possible concern for the long term is whether the color LCD display and touch-screen will last. No reason to suspect trouble, though. The "culinary center" and sensor-based cooking capabilities of this unit are very cool, even if not really necessary. And this last is completely frivolous, but the ability to select from a bunch of different color scenes for the main display background is kind of cool.... We also got a free-standing french door (4-door type) Jenn-Air fridge, a "free" Jenn-Air dishwasher as part of the package, plus the above-mentioned warming drawer. The dishwasher is very quiet, although like all new water-saving dishwashers, it takes a long time to run through the complete cycle. My feeling on both the fridge and the dishwasher is that they are basically gussied-up Kitchenaid, and I've always felt that Kitchenaid was pretty good at both fridges and dishwashers. (As an aside, I am loving the extra door/drawer, which in this case is a refrigerator drawer above the main freezer.) We went with Dacor for our cooktop, just because we liked some of its features a bit more than the Jenn-Air cooktops we were looking at.

If you get one where the door opens down e prepared for lots of crumb cleaning up. I gave my air fryer that had the slide out to my son and replaced it with a combo with slide in trays, rotisserie, rotating fry basket, skewers and almost wish I had just the air fryer back. Sometimes more is less indeed...

@Fun2BHere - Thank you! How long does it take for your CMW to get to cooking temperature? I think that is my big question. The toaster oven and air fryer being small appliances are almost instantaneous, so you're just dealing with the cooking time not preheat time. Does the CMW preheat fast enough to be "convenient"? Last night it was just the kids and me, so I pulled out the air fryer and cooked some frozen hamburger patties, it was 14 minutes from the time I decided to cook them to eating. No idea how long they'd take in the oven, I've only cooked fresh homemade (much thicker) burgers in that and they take at least 25 minutes after the oven preheats which I'd be lucky to have happen in 14 minutes. @plllog true, you know I never have tried pizza in my Air Fryer, it would probably work fine. I'll try it next time! I keep it in the pantry so it needs pulled out to use, and its round, which I find awkward for things. It was a gift and quite nice but not what I would have chosen. I am trying to get the toaster oven off the counter, but it would also be nice to open space in my pantry too and if I decide the CMW won't work this is the best alternative suggestion. @User thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into those and check out their sizes. In my search I have been leaning towards models that have racks inside. I feel like being able to have food suspended probably helps cook it better.

I think for getting extra info on one it is better in a separate thread so not to trail away from the OP of the other. It's a good topic - we can learn from each other before making an investment of our $s. i can't really recommend the brand I have. I wouldn't buy it again unless they remade it with SS inside instead of the coated whatever they used. It's a Paula Deen, comes with 2 or 3 trays and a basket. It stunk to high heaven for a very long time when used. If looking for another one now I'd want SS on the inside and on the trays. I do have a problem with lots of 'scents' on / in things (soaps, shampoo, detergent, cleaners, candles etc). This one is a good size for me and easier to use than a round one (that one is a cook's essentials I think from Evine (now a different shopping channel name)). It was good but the basket didn't come apart (so more difficult to clean) and didn't hold a lot - it was maybe 4 qt size. The one someone posted a pic of here looks good - like it has SS inside. A lot of them are more than I want to spend and probably larger than I need (or have space for). FB has a separate page for the IP AF oven so you could check there for reviews on that brand. I read a lot of good reviews and a lot of not so good reviews on it. I've read not so good reviews on the one by Wolfgang. Curtis Stone has one now (on HSN) but rather new out and I haven't checked reviews on it. Mine has 'burned' off most of the smell by now so I keep using it. somethings I cook in it are in another small pot so not on the rack that came with it. and I found I had a very small SS 'pan' with holes in it that fit in it and use that to put in garlic bread / tater tot type things. the air flows in / around it but food isn't on the nonstick rack that came w/ the AF. it's like a tiny broiler pan insert. I haven't used a broiler in many, many decades so I have no idea why I have this little tiny holey piece of metal... lol! but it works great. Breville should be a good brand if it has an AF. Moccasin Landing (yrs ago she posted on Small Homes) had a Breville toaster oven that she raved about. I like the dials on them rather the electronic read outs. also be sure that the words / temp numbers are dark and large enough to read without your glasses (if you need them). Mine has a light inside and I like the glass in the door so you can see the food cooking rather than the AF basket type. I was always pulling it out... and pushing it back in. you might check the Blue Jean Chef's website to see if she (Meredith Lawrence) has any tips on the different brands and / or what to watch / look for in one.
