Anyone Have the New Jenn-Air Combo Ovens?
Comments (5)I've had the new Jenn-Air combo oven for a couple of months now and have been very happy with it. I got the 30" SS microwave oven (without convection)/convection oven combination. The one you are referring to is an upgraded model and has a larger LCD control panel so I think the user menus are a bit different. I agree the specs on the JA are better than the KA and were worth the extra money for me. (I really only had a choice between the KA and JA combo due to space constraints) My one complaint about the unit is that once the microwave has finished cooking the fan stays on until you open the door. I see no useful reason for this and forces me to get over to the microwave sooner because I can't stand the fan noise. This probably wouldn't bother most people though....See MoreJenn-Air Combo or Separate Wall Ovens?
Comments (6)No need to hide the name Jenn-air. Jenn-air has been , since 2006, the most reliable SxS and built in fridge according to respondents to Consumer Reports surveys, (Not CR's take, but inputs from buyers of the JA fridges). (Disclaimer)!!!! To be honest, I have not checked to see whose ahead in 2013 I bought mine in 2006, due to the features it had, No other 48" built in had those features back in 2006. I also checked CR before buying, At the time, there were only 3 manufacturers of 48" built in fridges, GE, SZ and JA. JA was rated number one for reliability again by CR respondents to a survey, (NOT CR's take). One of the contenders was "dead last" in that same survey, and since I already owned a GE and could not get parts for the ice maker, even after only one year, and rust along the side of it, GE was OUT TOO!! Anyway, long story short, bought the JA and we have loved it for going on 7 years now. I Can't speak about the other JA appliance, (No personal experience), but reading reviews on their newest appliances, most seem to be positive, and I do like some of the features on the newer ones. AS I mentioned, (in other posts), I do hate their "hide the price marketing scheme", something they picked up from SZ, (who has since abandoned that foolish Marketing Scheme)! Comments (10)My house came with a (replaced-for-sale) cheapest possible GE micro-oven combo. It's about 2 years old now. I wouldn't do it myself, but for what it's worth, it's the best *%#@ oven I've ever had. Not even convection. Good microwave, too. (I'm not saying this is the way to go--just that the cheap ones aren't necessarily bad if you don't mind the plasticky look and no-frills oven.) I really like Steph's setup above--that is what I would do if I had the choice. (I mean WHEN I have the choice--I haven't stopped planning). I, too am paranoid about having half of the unit die. Not terribly paranoid as I haven't done my kitchen yet, but I don't think I'd build it that way....See MoreSingle 30" Wall Oven: Bosch, Jenn Air, or Samsung?
Comments (16)Bosch, Miele, Bluestar -- all of these make great ovens that have lots of fans on this website. If it's in your budget, then you can't really go wrong with these brands. Incidentally, these also seem to be the only brands where we don't regularly hear about problems with the enamel chipping. That's a big problem for a lot of brands, and it frequently happens right after the warranty expires. So, if you don't want to have little bits of glass in your food, pick a model that a) doesn't have enamel (e.g. some of the Miele ovens), that b) uses gas (for some reason, those ovens don't seem to have this problem), or c) stick to the brands that seem to be immune (see above). On a related note, now that I have used my new kitchen for close to a year, I can't say enough good things about my Miele CSO. I don't really miss the capacity of a 30" oven, even though I do have one in my range. Everything being equal (and if budget isn't a factor), I'd probably pick two 24" CSO over an extra 30" conventional oven. OTOH, I do really like the super-powered broiler in my Bluestar range. That's a really useful tool to have....See MoreMootie181
