Single wall oven jenn air vs GE Monogram?
Comments (14)I've had the new Jenn Air Combination Microwave/Wall Oven for about a year now and have been happy with it except for one BIG (too me) thing. The cook timer feature with a delay start does not function. Its not broken just the feature was never written into the software code for the control panel. After several repair calls (from Jenn Air and Sears) to verify that I wasn't crazy a new control panel was ordered but that has been repeatedly delayed. As a side note, this handy feature was one of the main reasons for replacing my previous old, working but very ugly oven. It has taken several months but now Sears is offering to replace this oven and I think will I pay the extra cost for the V2 Convection model (with a different control panel as verifed by Jenn Air). I would wait it out for a new control panel but after a year I don't have much confidence Jenn Air is planning on fixing it. I also want to mention that Sears has been responsive for the most part and I did not have to fight for them to replace the oven. (although I don't have new oven yet so I may be speaking too soon). I know this doesn't answer OP's original question but it seemed like a good place to relate my experience....See MoreJenn Air Micro/Wall Oven combo reviews
Comments (8)We have the "V2" version combo wall-oven and microwave (JMW3430), installed a bit over a month ago. We really like it so far, although we haven't begun to use many of the features. The main oven has a dual-fan convection system, and the upper microwave can also be used as a convection oven, as it has a heating element besides the microwave. We thought about getting separate units, instead of a combo, but the slightly lesser total height of the combo unit allowed us to fit a warming drawer underneath. I'm not too worried about the "need to replace the whole thing" issue, as I'm usually more inclined to repair something instead of replace. It seems to me that the Whirlpool units have fewer features, but that the corresponding KitchenAid models are not that different. (Our prior unit was a Whirlpool combo oven/microwave, that lasted roughly 19 years, although it did need a controller board replacement at one point, maybe 7 or 8 years ago.) My other possible concern for the long term is whether the color LCD display and touch-screen will last. No reason to suspect trouble, though. The "culinary center" and sensor-based cooking capabilities of this unit are very cool, even if not really necessary. And this last is completely frivolous, but the ability to select from a bunch of different color scenes for the main display background is kind of cool.... We also got a free-standing french door (4-door type) Jenn-Air fridge, a "free" Jenn-Air dishwasher as part of the package, plus the above-mentioned warming drawer. The dishwasher is very quiet, although like all new water-saving dishwashers, it takes a long time to run through the complete cycle. My feeling on both the fridge and the dishwasher is that they are basically gussied-up Kitchenaid, and I've always felt that Kitchenaid was pretty good at both fridges and dishwashers. (As an aside, I am loving the extra door/drawer, which in this case is a refrigerator drawer above the main freezer.) We went with Dacor for our cooktop, just because we liked some of its features a bit more than the Jenn-Air cooktops we were looking at....See MoreJenn Aire Wall Oven - good or bad move?
Comments (0)I'm going to be needing new appliances soon - I'm redoing a kitchen. my local appliance store has a 30" Jenn Aire wall oven they'll sell me for 300.00. It's in bisque - I'm figuring that is the reason OR the model is a disaster. It is last yr's model too - which certainly doesn't bother me. it's JJW9530DDB - unless the B on the end is for the color. the one at the site address he emailed me is in black and that's the number on it. According to the website and the salesman it's also a convection oven which bothers me even more - this is an expensive oven (to me anyway) and for 300.00??? I don't have much money - but I don't cook much either so I'm not needing a super piece of equipment - just something to make garlic toast in, cookies maybe - and an occasional meatloaf. that's about the extent of my oven use. Oh - and I thought if I'm redoing the kitchen, I should put in new appliances. right now I just use a hot plate and small counter oven. that didn't seem right to do in a newly redone kitchen... I do like that it'd be a wall oven so it could be put up higher than one w/ a range since I have back problems. i had planned to get a range and figured I could get my needs met for around 500-600.00. This unit with a cooktop they have would be about 600.00. does this sound like a big mistake on the oven? the cook top should be fine - it's within price range it's selling for on the net / elsewhere. I called this store today to see how easy it'd be to find a 24" range in bisque. I can manage the 30" just didn't plan to since I don't cook much - seemed a waste of space to me. but I'd give up the 6" of counter space to have the oven up higher! I've started looking online for recalls etc and did find some negative reviews regarding the doors of this oven - seems some people have had them fall off and couldn't get them to stay on even with new hinges. that didn't sound good. It did seem this mostly happened on double ovens tho. This is a single - I certainly have no use for a double oven! anyone have any input on this oven? Jenn Aire ovens? have one? the very, very low price? last yr's model vs one's older than that? Here is a link that might be useful: jenn aire oven...See MoreBosch vs Jenn Air
Comments (3)I don't know of a Benchmark MW drawer, but maybe you're thinking of the 800 series? Looking at it on their website, I can see it's definitely made by Sharp. The reviews I've seen of the Sharp MW drawer have been nearly all positive, especially here on Gardenweb (where people usually visit for reasons other than just bashing manufacturers they've had bad experiences with). My gut instinct agrees - Sharp has good stuff. Microwaves are all they do in the appliance area, and they've been at it for a while. Plus they're the only residential microwave I know of that is made in the USA. Also, I think that the fact they make these for pretty much everyone speaks to how good they are... Wolf and Gaggenau would not stick their names on a complete piece of crap. I'll throw in a good word for GE ovens, but Benchmark should be great also based on Bosch's past ovens. I think we are all curious to hear from someone who actually owns one of these, so if you buy one please post back with your experience!
