You know that feeling, but may not have realized that it owes at least part of its popularity to having been used by Shakespeare in The Taming of the Shrew (Act II, Scene 1): Why how now daughter Katharine? In your dumps?

Shakespeare's writings are the source of so many of our common sayings. Brilliant writer and maybe one day we'll find out who he really was, or did he really exist. It seems extraordinary that so much amazing writing was produced by a single person. Maybe it was a "group write" done by performers as they rehearsed his plays.

It's one that I remember DF using regularly! I was surprised to hear from DH that DF would swear pretty vehemently. He never swore around us, his children, and Sam Hill was about as "colorful" that he would get.
