Phrase of the day 1/1

Rome wasn’t built in a day

A good guess would be that this phrase originated in Rome itself. The meaning of the expression is, of course, that nothing of lasting value can be created in a very short time. It appears in English as early as 1546 in Heywood’s Proverbs, but a French version goes back to at least A.D. 1100.
