Refrigerator Help! Would you go bigger if you could go back?
Comments (10)In the case of refrigerators, bigger is better. Since you're hoping to eliminate the deep freeze in the pantry, you will need to make sure you have PLENTY of freezer space. Many of the larger cu ft fridges have more fridge space but the freezer space is the same as smaller cu ft fridges. I second the Samsung recommendation. We have the Kenmore Elite badged Samsung counter depth. We chose the Kenmore version because with all else being the same, I liked the handles better. The one thing I didn't believe was true when the salesman said it, was that the fruits & veggies would stay fresh longer. Well, we've been in the new house 6 months and by golly, he was right! Pleasantly surprised :-) That would come in handy for storing the raw ingredients for the baby food. It is also quiet--you can't even hear it running except for when the ice drops into the bin. Some have reported problems with their icemakers, but we have had no problems--the icemaker will put itself in the 'Off' mode if the bin is super full. There's a reset button for that that I think alot of people miss. Since you're also looking at Kenmore, remember that Kenmore appliances are made by a myriad of different companies. In the fridge department alone you've got Whirlpool, LG, Kitchen Aid, Samsung & GE making refrigerators with a Kenmore badge. You'll want to check reviews on both the Kenmore badged refrigerator as well as the one with the manufacturer's label on it. Generally you can tell which manufacturer made a particular model by the ice maker and/or the cooling system design as they typically use the same ones in the Kenmore that they do in their regular lineup ;-) Here's a link to the full size Samsung that we bought the counter depth version of. It's one of the largest 36" wide refrigerators on the market at 29.6 cuft. It only has 1 review and the guy gave the fridge 1 star because he was having problems with the apps (yes, you read that right--the apps). Who buys a fridge for the apps, for heaven's sake?!? Anyway, hope this helps & congrats on your new baby! Here is a link that might be useful: Samsung 29.6 cu ft Refrigerator...See MorePool owners: Would would you do if you could do it again?
Comments (3)We live in South FL, In previous homes we had the textured concrete & pavers. They both needed pressure washing after time. We are building another pool now and decided to go with pavers, no staining, not slippery for kids, not 100% crazy about it but we Are going with it....See MoreIf you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?
Comments (46)I wouldn't have believed the societal message that the only honorable thing to do when having a baby, if you were unmarried in 1969, was to place that child for adoption, so he could have a "normal" stable, two parent home. It was not the best for him, nor was it good for me. The societal message was that it was the loving thing to do and the only way to redemption for the "sin" of pregnancy outside of marriage. That was immediately replaced by a new societal message: What kind of mother would give away her own flesh and blood? That "normal, stable" two parent adoptive couple divorced when he was 5 and he was raised by a single mother! I knew the minute I left my baby in the hospital and returned home without him that it was a mistake. But the adoption industry ($$) was so powerful, they would have young women believe that there was no turning back, no changing your mind. All lies. They had a baby to sell and there was no hope or help to fight them....See MoreIf you could garden anywhere where would you choose?
Comments (19)GG I know where you live! lol I gardened for many years in Northern CA, Mediterranean Climate. Wet winters and very hot and dry summers. I collected and grew salvias, cistus, cannas and abutilons along with many other plants. We learned to garden through droughts using waste water to keep the garden alive. It was an adventure to return to the PNW and I brought more than 125 pots filled with my most precious plants. Most turned out not to be hardy in my present garden but some survived and are growing happily. But I was able to grow many species that more than compensated for the losses. The first to be planted were ferns, hostas, hellebores and all the wonderful spring ephemerals found in our Marine Climate. I traded eucalyptus and stone pine trees for Douglas firs, cedars and alders. But best of all, I have become passionate about my hydrangea collection. My only hydrangea in the CA garden grew in the creek in my back yard with constantly moving water and shaded by a huge redwood tree! lol Now I have more than 50 different cultivars and love every one of them. Everything from macs., serratas, arborescens, asperas and paniculatas. I am a happy gardener! I propagate more than one hundred each year for our garden club sale. One interesting thing about the PNW is that we have found the gardeners to be far more open, welcoming and generous than most of the folks we left in CA. What do I miss?? The 30 year old pomegranate bush that grew right next to the compost bin in full sun and yielded armloads of huge sweet fruits so big they literally burst their skins. But it is worth the loss....See Morerobo (z6a)
