Pool owners: Would would you do if you could do it again?

We are considering pool options and would like to know your thoughts on what worked, what didn't, and what you would do differently with your pool. Two of our decision points are the pool deck surface and the surface of the pool itself. We don't have a large deck and the pool itself will be small too (24x12). Thanks in advance!

P.S. We are in South Florida near the coast so it gets very hot, rainy summer afternoons, and salty air.

Deck options: Travertine seems to be the most popular, but some have told us it wears poorly. Stamped or poored concrete is an option, but that can crack. Both need to be pressure washed, can be slippery (though some say they aren't), and get hot. Some just suggested synthetic lawn around the pool. I have not seen this around a pool except in photos, but it looks viable. Curious to see how hot it gets.

Pool Surface: Main concern is the smoothness so the kids feet do not get torn up playing volleyball or basketball in the pool. Also want something that lasts a while (versus the old marcite pools that crack and stain). DiamondBrite seems to be our best option, but then there is Pebbletec and all its different "models". Too many choices!
