Utility Sink for Washing Small Dogs
Comments (22)Sorry, I've been AWOL & just catching up with this thread. (We drove straight through from Houston to SC on Sunday & have been on a whirlwind schedule doing walkthroughs & meetings for selections.) gerberdaisy - we're about on the same wavelength. Rather than integrating the drainboard with the SS utility we're just going to have some base cabinets with a countertop we can put a slip proof mat on for drying off and grooming. To me, the issue with the Booster Bath is that you have to run a line to some drain & connect to water supply hoses. I'd rather have a sink with a drain & faucet that we can use for other purposes. After a couple of days walking around the site, I can tell that having a place to rinse off Wellies or garden clogs will be great. Like gobruno (& flgargoyle, soon enough), it isn't the periodic bathing as much as it is getting muddy paws rinsed off before they track it into the house. With some kind of washing station in the room from which they access the outside, this will be a an easier task. On Monday, during one of many walkthroughs, I said that I wanted a scullery sink in the dog room. The builder started to talk to me about a shower setup he had done for another client. The cabinetmaker chimed in & said, "She has small dogs. She just wants to pick up the dog & put it in the sink. The scullery sink will work just fine." So, I'm encourage that a professional set of eyes on the space I'm trying to outfit thinks that the scullery sink will work. It's interesting to see the task of dog washing/cleaning through the eyes of owners of very different types of breeds. With small dogs, picking them up & plopping them in the sink is probably faster than trying to convince them to go up a ramp. Silky Terriers don't have an undercoat, so they don't shed anymore than you or I "shed" hair. And yes, they love to shake once the bath is done, but it doesn't drench an entire exercise. Thanks for the thoughts & I'll update you when it is eventually installed. Jo Ann gobruno - yer killin' me waiting for pix. LOL!!!!!...See MoreDog Wash...what basin/tub/pan to use?
Comments (12)aimless07 I think there are a variety of dimensions of professional grooming tub, ranging from like 36 to 54 maybe? Ours I believe is 46 or 54, it has been 2 years since install and I don't feel like getting the tape measure out, LOL.. We just have beagles so not too big of dogs but I wanted to ensure we had sufficient space w/ no issues. I love that it has the door that opens and closes for them to get in and out. From the company we ordered, you have the option of having them include a little hook for a leash to be hooked to but we didn't do that b/c I wanted to do the custom tiles w/ the puppy pictures....See MoreDo you prefer shower or tub to wash the dog?
Comments (15)I prefer a walk-in shower for all but the smaller dogs (I mean 20 pounds or less). I think it's easier to be in the shower with the dog in order to get access to all sides. Ditto the suggestion on the hand shower - and get one with an extra long hose (6' or more) so that if your dog keeps cringing toward the corner you can still reach all the areas you need to rinse. We had used a Swanstone base in the last shower we did, it had a good texture (that was still cleanable, thankfully) that offered non-slip standing for me and the dog. In solid white, they are pretty unobjectionable. I prefer cast iron for a purely-people shower, but the swanstone worked well in the dog shower (which was also our people shower)....See MoreHow important is a dog-washing station for new house? Comments (87)A raised human tub makes a great dog bath and helps with the bending over, as well as at least a small deterrant to the (larger) dog exiting the tub prior to at least a decent rrub wth a towel. My groomer had outfitted her shop with this set up. It's also pretty cost effective. My back isn't fond of outting our dogs in the existing people tubs. My current dog shower is too high (it has open space under it for the cat's little box) and if I wash a dog in there. all the wantter runs down my arms - sigh. I've also bathed the dogs in our walk in shower - which - is convenience because the shaking is contained and I can just disrobe and finish the process for myself since I am usually soaked anyway. While at lot of things will work - laundry sinks, etc - you still have to LIFT THE DOG as high as the counter. It's also a challenge to have something to secure the dog in the tub - which is why a commecial grooming tub was the right option for us as it checks all the boxes and even has a pull out ramp to help get larger dogs in there. I suspect we'll use this large tub for more than dogs - I could see it being useful for all sorts of gardening things....See Moremtnfever (9b AZ/HZ 11)
