What Brand of Washer and Dryer Would You Recommend?
Comments (3)Trudysmom, thank you for finally posting in the right place. Now, however, you should grab a cup of coffee or tea or pop and sit down at your computer and start paging through the 67 pages of recommendations, warnings, and so on, in this forum. Many people have already posted their findings and their experiences; you should take advantage of them. It will be extremely difficult for us to make any recommendations for you or even to guess because you have given us no idea of your budget or any special requirements you may have (have to be able to wash king-sized comforters every week; DH is a mechanic; you live far from a big city; etc.). By the time you empty your cup or glass, you should be able to identify your must-haves, what you might want to spend, etc. One limiting factor for you -- and, therefore, a starting point -- may be which brands you can buy and have serviced locally. There's little point in buying a top-of-the-line gold-plated German Zaubermann if no one within 300 miles of you can sell or service it. Check your locals phone book's yellow pages and maybe make a few calls to find out which brands are carried in your area....See MorePlease recommend a stacking washer/dryer
Comments (3)My family and I rent a condo at Hilton Head in the summer and we loved their GE stackable that was in it. You know it takes a beating with renters who don't care and yet we returned this year and I know this is silly but I was looking so forward to using the stackable again. It was so quiet!! They owners had a sign up to use only two tablespoons of detergent and that is what we did and things just got so clean. The only thing negative is that it is so far on the ground to get things out of the washer. I ended up sitting on the floor to pull things out. Maybe you could put a stool in front of it. A friend of mine has a GE largest capacity and she hates it but she thinks if you get a smaller one you are better off because she believes the large capacity contributes to them getting out of balance easily. I've had a problem with my Maytag doing that as well....See MoreOT but What washer and dryer do you own?
Comments (30)The washer dryer decision last year was more painful than the WHOLE KITCHEN! I ended up with stacked Frigidarie Infinity., there was a special price3. The Europeans were too much, especially since they don't last the 20 plus years that my giant old Maytags in the basement have. They are still going strong but I have probelems with the narrow twisting stairs down there. I too wanted to put the new ones on the 2nd floor where the bedrooms are, but worried about the vibrations on my beautiful old plaster walls. ( I wanted a FL because of the water savings here in CA) I actually love havintg them by the kitchen, makes doing laundry much easier since that the room I spend the most time in! Mine doesn't really do loads as big as my old Maytags and because of where we had to put them they are a PITA to ever get unstacked! So I continue to do heavy rugs and blankets that create lots of fuzz in the basement. But the the Frigidaires are fine, and I love using less water. The dryer settings are less flexible than my Maytag, but I am figuring it out....See MoreRecessed Outlets for Refrigerator and Washer/Dryer
Comments (3)Dryers typically have right-angle plugs and I've never seen one that when pushed as close to the wall as you're allowed that the plug is a problem with a surface mounted receptacle. Yes, you need room behind the dryer for the vent connection. Read your appliance manual. Dryers typically require at least 1" clearance from the furthest protrusion (and they're not typically flat on the back anyhow), It may require more to connect the vent. Refrigerators typically do require a couple of inches rear clearance. I'm looking at the LG manual I have here and it says 2" rear, 1" top, and 1/8" side clearances. LG does even say "Room to breathe" in the manual like your electrician. You'll also need room for any ice machine/water dispenser hookup. In all the houses I've owned or worked in, I've never seen a recessed fridge or dryer outlet. In fact, it would be a pain because the right angle plugs typically used for these would be hard to plug into a recess....See MoreLizzie Borden
