Design Dilemma Flooring

help! I think I ruined my hardwoods!

We are moving into a new house & has the 25 year old original red oak floors refinished before move-in. Of course, the floor guys came three days later than originally planned and put us down to the wire to pick a finish. I wanted to go light because we have two small kids and the dark walnut stained floors in our old house were difficult to keep nice - but now I’m totally second guessing my decision. This is with one coat of nordicseal on the barewood. Now I fear it looks unfinished and too cold?

Take a deep breath-slowly let it out. It’s a beautiful neutral and just waiting for your furniture, rugs, and family to give it color and life.

I have a set of stainless pots that are about 35 years old. They get pretty hard use. The smallest one has that "rainbow" effect inside but the pot works fine and the outside looks perfect and shiny. so I continue using it. The object is to cook and heat food, not have a perfect looking pot,right?

Hello Duane Collie From The Keeping Room, i Had the walnut veneer Lacquered finish walnut table ruined by Pledge. The description of the table says “Solid Eucalyptus wood and engineered wood with walnut veneer, covered in a water based dark walnut finish.“ West Elm who I purchased the table from advised me to contact the Furniture Medic - this is a franchised furniture repair business. Hmmm. Awaiting their call. Home Depot in California does not carry mineral spirits, but my woodworking neighbor has Klean Strip- Xylol-Xylene and V.M. &P Naphtha. wouldnt these ruin the veneer? His wife thought I need to oil the table to dissolve the pledge- she gave me jojoba oil! i am afraid I will ruin the table even more...what are your thoughts?

FWIW, the standards for dry heat sterilization is that 1 hour at 340, then allowing it to cool, should kill any germs. See the link. And if you're using a soaked pan, it probably will be sterile at a lower temperature. (Water helps the heat to penetrate and kill the germs.) I once did some medical volunteer work in a third world country for a few months; we used a pressure cooker to sterilize the surgical instruments. Worked fine. You are all so going to LAUGH!!!! i almost cryed .. Here is the story: i was SO upset with all the streaks that i decided to spray some Orange Glo ( i do not work for any company that sells Orange Glo) and noticed that where i sprayed it went through the stain so i am was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO its getting even worst now---so i took my rag and went to remove the orange glo and what happened--YIPEEEEEEEEEEE it removed the stain --HOWEVER i have blisters in my hands now from doing it but it worked!! so more stains in my future I promissed -specialy the GEL KIND.

I think it looks great in your spaces - looks like it will be a nice backdrop for your furniture, rugs, artwork, and draperies....

Your floor will look better with each coat of finish.

What kind of finish did your contractor use? My contractor used a satin finish which seemed a little dull to me, so I asked for another coat in the semi gloss. It really made a difference. I don't recommend gloss finish, everything shows up. Your floors have a lot of character and are beautiful. You will find that a missed dust bunny doesn't show up as easily with this lighter color versus the dark you are familiar with.

Ask your contractor if he has a portfolio of his work, perhaps he has a past job that will show exactly what you want.

Perhaps the wall color is too cool for the space. In any case, your furniture will warm the room up and help to give you a better overall view of your room.
