The walkway between the island and the stove wall needs to be much larger in front of the stove you need MIN 48” the rest looks pretty giood what is the reason for the shallow cabinet on the stove wall at the entry? Also are all your base cabinets drawers? So you need to shorten the islnd at the end facing the stove to make that walkway 48” especailly since you all like to cook. I aslo would suggest you do true pullout pantries not doors and pull outs behind the doors.I make it easier to access and maximizes storage space

Thanks for the suggestion on making the walkway bigger by the stove. My refrigerator is currently recessed to the right of the stove which is why it’s deeper at the end of the stove wall. We are going with a counter depth now. We plan to do mostly base cabinet drawers. What do you mean by “true pullout pantries”?

I was just about to comment that the jog by the DR would be the perfect spot to recess a full-depth fridge for extra cold storage, when I read your reply to Patricia. It sounds as if your existing layout is better than the proposed layout. I made some adjustments, keeping the fridge in current location. I like having the MW closer to the fridge, which you still could do with a MW drawer between the fridge and range, but I also like the idea of the snack area outside the work zones:

Thanks Mama goose. The fridge we have now is only 33W and I really don’t like how the side of the fridge panel is visible from the dining room. It feels kind of blocked off. I know it’s not ideal having it on the opposite wall, but I do like that it is accessible without coming into the cooking zone. We are trying to keep the stove in the space it is now. Thanks so much for taking the time to look at this. I hadn’t thought of a square island, would it be hard to reach across it?

In mamagoose's layout the fridge being at that location means it's accessible from the dining room (making it convenient for those "oops I forgot the dressing...and the milk...I need more butter" moments. Unless you don't use your dining room? It also really reduces the size of your triangle, which makes a more efficient kitchen. People won't enter the cooking zone with the fridge there - they'd be on the edge of it. If you don't put your fridge there, I'd consider just thickening up that wall and not jogging your counter.

things are a bit spread out in your current layout but I think they're OK. You'll just get a lot of walking in :)

Pullout pantries are the ones where the pantry shelves are attached to the cupboard faces, kind of like those spice pullouts. Personally I don't think I'd love that but YMMV. I would actually prefer a larder style pantry, which you could do.

Thanks anj_p. I have been looking into larder style pantries. I appreciate the suggestion. We do use the dining room which is actually why I wanted to move the fridge. I really don’t like the view of the huge side panel.
Also, wondering about having seating on both the island and peninsula. I believe we will use both but wonder if it will look too busy? We plan to use small stools to tuck under the island and more comfortable counter chairs with backs for the living room peninsula side.

This is our current floor plan. We are adding on which increases the size of the kitchen. We will loose our eat in kitchen area with the remodel but gain an island and so much needed storage.

Mama goose added an end panel for you - is that what you don't like? or you don't like seeing the side of the fridge? Unfortunately by moving it you make it a lot less accessible at dinner time, but pick your poison, I suppose! By making it an end panel, you could do something cool with it - chalkboard wall, piece of art, whatever.

Regarding seating at both - it seems like a lot but it really depends on how you envision using your space and how it all flows. Your couch looks a bit too close to the peninsula seating as it's shown now - so if the couch has to be where it is you may want to reconsider that. How do you envision using your island? If it's for prep and you want people to talk to you, then keep your island seating. And consider a prep sink.

trash goes where your dishwasher is.
think about if you ever have your dw open while you're cooking. if it's between the sink and stove, you can't have it open. it will be in the way. at least in the other side, someone can empty it/ do dishes while some else is at the stove. mama goose's layout completely separates these tasks, which is awesome. two people can work and not run into each other. by moving the fridge to its new location, you need to cross zones which isn't as good.
