I would not worry about the backsplash as it's fine as it is. Rather I'd put the large decorative platter in the blue/green that you like above the cooktop where the star is now. Rather than the bowl in the corner that only shows its neutral side, get something that again reinforces the color theme...ceramic cookie jar or whatever. But be deliberate about the accessories and mindful of scale. You don't want a bunch of small things, but one or two impactful things that reinforce your color theme. I would not worry about the space by the slider...let that be. It's part of the traffic area to get out the door and it's better left unobstructed. You'll want the focal point to be the wall behind table anyway, and the view out the slider. So with that, make sure the art over the sideboard goes with your blue and green, and then add some of that color to the dining room table as well...be it a table runner, accessories on top, candles, whatever. To make a color theme work, it needs to be sprinkled about, used at least 3 times in different places around the rooms.

The room could use some re-design, and you could try using current furniture. Center the rug in the room. Angle the amoire where the chair is now. Center the sofa on the current wall, and move the large chair to face the hall(?) door opening (making an "L"). The table near the chair may have to move to another space, or it might look good between the two front windows. Then, you'll need to add a couple of side tables and lamps, and a couple of solid pillows to replace two of the patterned ones on the sofa.

Great start Nancy !!!! The rug is NOT to big !! Looks great, def. see some color added tho, what colors do you like is really the question. You can do almost anything. Can you face the couch toward the fp, and flank the 2 chairs with side and perhaps the club chair next to the pf wit a small table? you only know if you try it. One larger brighter piece over the fp will make it appear larger and of course brighter. If you leave the 2 chairs in front of the fp, try a small round table in-between otherwise they look disconnected. Hope this helps a bit, have fun, good luck, best, Debra

Wider is always better. There is no minimum size for the TV. Do not hang that guitar between the windows. Do not hang anything between the windows. Your curtains are perfect. Hang the guitar on the wall just left of the TV, get some art for over the sofa, and add just a touch more red to echo the arc lamp (which is tres cool, BTW). You've done a great job so far.
