Please Help me put the finishing touches on my kitchen..
Comments (22)Your kitchen is beautiful! Very inspirational to me :) Are you familiar with Ballard Designs? They have a huge selection of "outdoor rugs" (although I can't imagine using one outdoors where I live!) But we have a few as door mats and one in our Dining Room, and they are perfect! Easy to wipe down to clean. But they look really, really nice! Take a look--they are all on sale right now. And maybe one or two will inspire you? Just a few examples... OR Now, under your eating area, I am going to just caution that it will get MESSY under there one your little eater is eating independently. But you can enjoy the rug until then, and then see how you feel. It's just hard to get under there and clean, with the built-in there. Also, I had wooden fabric seated chairs, and they will be getting re-upholstered in a few more years--they are trashed! Even the wood backs are "gunky" from so much wet hands/jelly/cereal/yogurt/etc. I switched to industrial style metal chairs from World Market (so not very expensive!) and I love them. Sooooo easy to wipe down--even easier than wood! And I have the coordinating wood table, so it does look good with wood tones, too. And my kitchen is white, Here they are: Finally, go into stores, like World Market or Pier One or anything that floats your boat. Find some napkins or placemats that inspire you. They are a good way to bring in some color in an inexpensive way, test it out in the room, and use it as inspiration for your room. Comments (7)So we don't want to do a rug just yet because I watch dogs for a living which is why we ripped out our carpets for Cortec flooring. We don't have much much room for a full sideboard so maybe one we can put in one of the back corners? I definitely like the idea of a new chandelier and curtains. Just not sure what type of Chandelier. We have a ceiling fan in our living room and a dome light in our foyer....See MoreI'm clueless about finishing touches... Help me finish my living room!
Comments (6)What a beautiful living room you have made. The credenza under your TV is particularly gorgeous. Here is what I would consider doing if this were my room- just to give you ideas to play off of for a start. I would begin by finding some blue, patterned throw pillows for the sofa and the arm chair. I like Indian block prints. They are classic and fresh. What I have shown is not exactly bargain, Target/Home Goods, but aside from the Ginori, it's not terribly expensive either. Here are some from John Robshaw: And for the blue arm chair, I thought something like this could be fun: Next I would find an orchid or cyclamen for the table by the blue arm chair. I am partial to cyclamens, so here: I would look for a silver cachepot. Here is a simple one from The Enchanted Home. I like how the silver echoes your side table by the sofa. I would like a much simpler/more modern silver cachepot, this is all I could find right now. Then for the coffee table, I would find a few pretty and interesting coffee table books: Assouline, Phaedon, Taschen, Rizzoli all have great, colorful, conversation sparking titles available. It is very common to put stuff on top of books on coffee tables. That is not my thing. I would rather just see something pretty next to the stack of books. Maybe a bowl or a vase in this Ginori pattern (Orientale in azalea): Lastly the table between the sofa and arm chair could use a lamp perhaps. I would look for something sculptural in crystal. Like this from Horchow: Your room is lovely and will come together more and more over time. Don't rush yourself. Wait to find things that really speak to you, so that you infuse the room with your personality....See MoreHelp with finishing touches on my kitchen remodel
Comments (27)Your range is not far from an outside wall and probably a duct could be done. That would depend on how you cook and your budget. Some cook a lot with spices or fry up lots of bacon, run their fan frequently and would never consider a ductless vent. I run my fan frequently and find it helps keep grease off surfaces, but that is me. Some people rarely cook on the range top or just don't find a fan important. It is a good idea to look at the little touches mentioned by Studio Boise. If you can live without the cabinet to the right of the window, you could put a set of shelves there or replace the center panels with glass or remove the doors, finish the inside and use as an open cabinet. That is not quite the same as the wood shelves, but might be an imbetween step while you see how you like that area open. Some will say you should not take away the storage - it depends on how much you have elsewhere. I retrofitted a cabinet with a plate rail - I am sure some would feel the space could have been better used as a cabinet, but like you I wanted to add some of my own touches / style. Shelves - like in some of your inspiration pic: This is more farmhouse / cottage: You might be able to use the cabinet elsewhere if you do shelves: Also - like others have said, once you add you own decor touches, the space will feel more like your space. My style is different from yours - more cottage - but I've got art and other touches that give it a sense of my space as opposed to any of the other similar (older oak) kitchens. https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~109854029 https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~109854052...See Moreamhers104
