Thanksgiving wishes to you all

I'm guessing you're all going to be crazy busy tomorrow and on the day, so I'm going to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving day to you all. We've been living through such strange times and I bet you can't have the day you had hoped for, but I hope you have a great time. Love and hugs......from a covid distance 😂

Condolences to all. This may be the first global disaster in our lifetime. Certainly mine. Felt by all. And tragic.

Past tragic events are site specific. Horrible but often we are a distant observer if not immediately and locally affected.

Covid connected.

Be safe, stay safe. Eyes wide open. Optimistic we will get through this in good health.

Made turkey dry brine this morning, fresh candles on the table, ....

Waiting on my grocery delivery. Hope it includes a turkey, 😂😂😂

I'm going to roast a Cornish Game Hen - that's a baby turkey, you know. So y'all gobble 'til you wobble and be thankful.

Toomanydogs, There were many people in the IE (Riverside, Corona, Upland, Ontario, etc.) during the 2007 freeze that lost a good portion of the collections. Jack @ Kimi's Plumeria in Corona even lost a bunch of plumies. in the Freeze of 2007 my patch got to 36 degrees. I met with a plumie friend from Riverside in October who told me that during the winter of 2010 and 2011 had a night or 2 of frost and lost several plants, some lost irreplaceable plumies such as Red Dusk and others that are hard to get like Thai peach from Jungle Jacks (the mother tree in Thailand was destroyed so there was only 1 season where the Thai Peach was available.). So if you value your plumies or have rare irreplaceable ones I would put them in your garage or get a green house to store them in during the coldest winter months. In So Cal the coldest months are typically Jan and Feb, so more to come. You may want to watch your plumies also if they were out in the cold air as it may take a week to show signs of damage like cracking and oozing of black fluid, shriveling, etc. I also check Weatehr.com, Accuweather, Weatherbug, Weather Underground for hourly updates during the night to see what my plumie patch temps will be. Usually my forecasts are pretty accurate as the coastal influence and marine layer help to regulate the temps and keep them more Constant. I think the drier air in the IE makes your temps a bit more unpredictable as you can have clean night skies which lets the heat escape. Hope your plumies are ok and that you have a Happy Holidays.

Talley Sue - sorry you had hitches!!! My day was great. I had to cook the thawed turkey anyway, so I went ahead and made the meal I'd planned: turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, fried corn, corn bread, pumpkin pie, apple pie - all from scratch. It was actually the first time I've ever cooked Thanksgiving and was fun, even if only my kids were here to eat it. Always before we went to my parent's house. The rest of the weekend I'm finishing up a couple of home improvement projects in anticipation of getting our tree next Saturday. And, of course, continuing to clean and purge!

LOL! Nancy, that's one ambitious little bird!

Thank-you, Islay, for the good wishes! The story is probably mostly fictional, and people today want to be very serious about the actual history, but it's a good story about neighbors sitting down together to share their bounty in good fellowship. It's something we should strive for always, rather than refighting battles lost and won way long ago. We can share the spirit of that by giving to food banks, if we can, or giving some time if we can better afford that, or even just staying out of the way and staying safe, if that's our best way to contribute. We can make phone calls, write letters, emails and texts, Zoom or FaceTime, and connect with loved ones while we stay at home. We are blessed to have loved ones to call and homes to stay home in.

My biggest "thankful" this year is that we have security. We (my family) have homes and food and income. We have enough to share. It's a basic level of life that too many don't have right now, and which the original settlers in the story certainly couldn't count on. I am grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and thank you, Islay, for thinking of us all.

We still have much to be thankful for. I'm especially thankful that my family is still intact and alive for me to miss having a holiday with, we're fortunate enough to not have lost anyone to COVID. I'm thankful for the roof over my head and the food on my table and that I'm fortunate enough to be able to be here where I'm happy and can play in the dirt and talk to my cows. I'm thankful for Elery every single day. I'm thankful to be healthy enough to take care of the other people who need me, like Mother.

Last but certainly not least, I'm thankful for all the friends I have made here.
