Paint Color with wood vaulted ceilings/skylights

Having a tough time deciding on paint color for our great room. There is a lot of natural light with windows/skylights and a slider but the wood vaulted ceiling is throwing me off. The back of the room has walnut wood grain tile and the front of the room will have carpet installed near the fireplace. I sampled BM Revere Pewter on the left window and SW Sea Salt on the right window and I am not sold on either. Any other suggestions? I feel the Revere Pewter is too muddy and the Sea Salt sometimes looks too blueish next to the wood ceiling and wood grain tile.

Here are a few alternative suggestions.

It’s possible to compare their colour attributes to those of Revere Pewter.

You can see in which Hue Family they belong & where within they sit.

Compare how light or dark they are. (Value)

Compare how colourful or near to neutral. (Chroma)

Compare how much light they reflect. (LRV)

Should you test any further colours I would suggest you paint large sample boards rather than the walls. That way you have the flexibility of moving them around the room to view them in various lighting.

These colours are also from the Yellow Hue Family but generally read somewhat more green. They are also effective with darker, richer wood tones.

Do everything except trim in flat. I was skeptical when my paint contractor suggested this, but it’s turned out well. Flat is no more difficult to clean and is easy to touch up. Also, flat minimizes flaws and that dappled texture that annoys some people.

"Usually, the paint for a bedroom is not selected until the bedding has been selected so" and if you change your bedding often? Sounds inconveniently traditional. You could paint the walls at full strength and go 25-50% saturation of the same color on the ceiling so it feels cohesive. You could pick a color on the same color strip or in the same color area. Try this article The Trouble With A North-Facing Room it lists your paint choice as an option. I think it's more modern to go with the same color and you could make it work with the high ceilings to alleviate the feeling of a cave. Have fun please - no white ceilings :)

I do think painting the ceilings and walls the same when it's a fairly pale neutral color like BM White Dove will work best. In my opinion, beams would likely be too busy looking with the skylight cutouts you already have. You could maybe pull off a single large beam along the peak, but I would definitely not do any more than that. Even a single beam is probably going to be busy looking.

In order to get an accurate idea of what paint colors will look like, the swatch process needs to mimic the actual paint process. In other words, the substrate needs to be primed accordingly and two even coats of paint applied within the primed area only. I think the fact that that the swatches are patchy and that they’re running into the previous wall colors is making it difficult to see how the colors really look. But I wouldn’t pick a paint color until after the carpet was in, of course that might not be possible in your situation or your preference. What is the carpet, anyway? And what is the fireplace hearth material (the floor right in front of the fp) going to be?

Alternatively, keep the darker flooring and whitewash or paint the ceiling.
