Unfortunately, I do not have a barn, and I only have a fraction of the space for storage that she has.

I've wanted one of those plastic wrap dispensers for some time, but they are expensive (over $100), and I could not justify that expense. Also, it takes up quite a bit of room. I do have a food mill, but I use it mainly for making chili sauce - I use a potato ricer for mashed potatoes, and I have two of them. I bought the first one thinking I could use it with chilies, but it does not work as well as the food mill, and then I bought the second one because it is a lot better than the first one. I should probably move one of them to the desert.

I use large ceramic vases for holding wooden spoons, and I see no need for putting silver spoons on the counter, since they are easily accessible in the drawer. I do not have a huge jar of vanilla like she does, but I do not use all that much vanilla. I do have more types of salt than she does, and I don't use that much salt.

Thanks for sharing! I do watch her show, if I happen to notice that it is on.

Thanks...always nice to visit with Ina! I recently bought her new book bringing my collection from her to 12. Some hits and misses from all of them but mostly hits. What I've tried so far from the new book have been worth repeating.

Like Lars, I don't use as much salt as Ina. She does love her salt!

For a second I thought she visited you at your barn, SD!

Either that barn is new or it’s not quite a few steps from her house. Years ago my sister’s then boyfriend used to rent the house next door to hers, as in share the driveway next door. I spent a bunch of time there, and we never realized until a couple years ago that we had been “neighbors.” Anyway, looking on google earth I don’t see that barn on her property and it seems pretty sizable so it’d be hard to hide.

I love having a plastic wrap dispenser. In my old house it was on top of the fridge which was not terrible but a little awkward, in this house I found a place on a rollout.

FOAS, her "barn" was built on an adjacent lot. It's definitely walking distance from the main house but more than a few steps. Can't remember but it might have been built maybe 5 years ago or so.

I love, love Ina. Her barn is gorgeous and I remember when she first started filming in it.

I never use the amount of salt called for in any recipe, and hers is no different. Hubby made her home fries once, and followed the recipe to a T. Too much salt for our tastes. But all chefs use too much.

Ah, yes, I see what you’re referring to, and cross-referenced it with pictures from an article. I stand corrected. Wow looks bigger than her house!

Right...not exactly small!

I found this video I remembered from shortly after the barn was built. Looks more like 2009. Wow...time flies!

I respect Ina for following her passion. She worked for many presidents.

She could buy and sell me but I don’t think she is the least bit pretentious. She shares her recipes and they are good.

I have always admired Ina. But, her kitchen/barn is kind of boring to me. No doubt it is the epitome of style and class. That's probably why. I love her shows, especially her older ones and I have used many recipes of hers with great success. I like salt. I do like how clean her kitchen always looks. Its comforting.

I think she said that she could not get the permit to build it originally so she had to apply for a permit to build a barn to get it approved, and that's why she calls it her barn.

I was always mortally jealous of Nigella Lawsons setup growing up. All those fairy lights and pinks and other pretty colors and floof and fluff. Now I have all of that and more in my own kitchen. Her new show set is more streamlined and modern. Kinda made me sad to see it. I'm glad she kept a few fairy lights up.....

I really like Ina's kitchens, especially the black counter tops, which is what I have. I would prefer bleached ash cabinets to the painted white ones, but that is a minor issue. I also like her kitchen floor, which I think is concrete, but I can't be sure. She has a hardwood floor in her pantry.

The pantry scares me a bit, as I imagine things flying off the shelves during an earthquake, but I guess she does not have to worry about that. I have to keep everything enclosed with secure doors, as much as possible.

What I'm not getting, is whether she uses this as her 'kitchen?' She's talking about having Thanksgiving alone with her husband. Do they eat there or do they carry all the cooked food back to her dining room?

Is the barn like a house? Do they eat there? Imagine making Thanksgiving dinner and carting it back to the house?

I love Ina and have all her cookbooks. But I would expect she uses the 'house' kitchen for entertaining.

Jane

She probably cooks for her and her hubby and friends in her real kitchen in the main house.

I understand she uses it for writing her cookbooks, testing recipes, filming her show and she has also used it for charity functions and other larger entertainments rather than host at her actual residence. She has talked about how it is an escape and she looks at it as her office.

Must be nice!
