And my iron is getting dusty. DH isn't traveling to see clients any more, so we aren't ironing a shirt or two every week.

No! No matter how many times I say it, I can’t get it through to my kids that things like sweatshirts and pants don’t need to be washed after being worn around the house for a few hours. Unfortunately I can’t reject them from the laundry pile because once I get them they’ve already been on the floor and covered in dog hair.

Not me. ☺ Still doing 2 loads a week. Bed sheets & towels. Exercise outfits. DH is working part-time......turning down work. Losing tools....buying more on Black Friday sales. Had to go buy him 6 pairs of jeans, they'd worn out during the last 8 months.

edited to add: I have one of the largest washers & dryers made. Commercial sized.

Two loads? I do about 7 and just 2 of us.

I do about the same amount of laundry. My love works from home, and I work at home, so our clothes needs/use hasn't changed much.

I did just recently have the fall clean out- washing all the summer stuff to go into storage, and washing all the stuff that was in storage to bring out for winter use.

I don't re-wear clothes, and I still do the same amount of laundry.

I agree with whistle. I’m doing what I always do as far as clothing. If anything, I probably do more because I am only wearing washable.

Pre Covid I wore my better things, those that I like to dry clean to keep them nice.

Foodstump, I agree, but more so with my dry clean items. If an item was worn only a few hours, I let it air out and wear wear it one more time. Which to me, equates to one day.

I have an extra load this time of year when it gets cold. I have an extra load of just jeans. We are in shorts most of the summer. I still have the same amount of clothes to wash:( Clothes for around the house, clothes for when we go shopping, friends/family over, and eating out.

We don't go any where and son brings in groceries. My outer clothes do not get dirty.

either...unless I only had it on for an hour or so.

Yes for me. I work from home half the week and tend to wear the same clothes for a couple of days while I'm home... except underwear! lol

Cooler weather, I'm wearing more layers, so more laundry. I can't make myself wear something for multiple days even when I'm just puttering around the house.

Washing about the same amount, just different clothes. I have not worn my job/going places clothes but a couple of times for appointments. But I have washed my home and garden clothes sooo much more. Had to buy some more slouchy clothes or I would have been washing every 2 or 3 days for just me.

I do at least a load of laundry every day. Often two. But I do a lot of work outside and in the barn. Plus lately I have had to go to town every day to exchange Jody's oxygen bottles, so I have to clean up for that.

It's just me and my bachelor son. I do all the laundry. The amount of his laundry hasn't changed. He is working the same as always. I have less because I rarely go anyplace. I used to put oon nicer clothes when I went someplace, then change to more comfortable clothes at home.

I haven't noticed that my laundry has increased or decreased. It's just me and I still do 2-3 loads each week.

But what I have noticed is the number of commentors who have "at home" clothes and "in public" clothes :-) And I am right there with them! If I plan on being at home - which is most days - and not expecting any visitors - also most days - then my wardrobe is quite different from what I would wear if I have errands or appointments scheduled. There are just somethings I prefer to wear while putzing around alone at home that I would never been seen in in public!

Also there is a lot more muck and mud at the stables with the arrival of wetter weather and I come home covered in it. More layers add to more laundry also. There are more blankets to wash during winter also.

Good advice from a former neighbor, executive at Hart Shaffner Marx: Just *air* and *brush* your 'dry clean only' clothing. It will last forever, and you aren't putting chemicals on your skin or into the world.

Detergent manufacturers have convinced (mostly) women that everything has to be washed if it's been worn for two seconds. 'Womens work' has been documented to expand to fill the time available. Example: A newlywed told me her DH expected her (a career woman) to change their bed daily, washing and ironing the sheets as his DM did. DM was a SAHM, isolated at home in a small village.

Laundry hasn't changed here, but we've been homebodies in retirement for a long time.

I live alone and only go out now about 1 a month. So a definite decrease in laundry. My daily wardrobe consists of night gowns. Dillard's recently had them on sale so today I have on a beautiful hot pink new one.

The dishwasher is really getting a workout, though. There are a lot more dirty dishes and glasses.

I still do at least load a day for two people even though I have heard a rumor that you can use a bath towel twice. ( Nope. ) I might wear my going-to-town clothes twice.

Both of us are retired and home alone together quite often, even without the stay-at-home necessity of the pandemic. I have, for many years into retirement, had street clothes and at home clothes - as gardengal describes. As soon as I come in the door, my shoes and socks are off and my slippers are on. Comfortable pants/leggings and t-shirts/hoodies. Even when we travel I need dual sets of clothes.

Haven't noticed any difference in frequency of laundry. I usually do a load everyday as routine, more or less to keep up with bath, bed and kitchen linens.

Can't remember the last time we had anything dry-cleaned. DH used to travel on business so often I finally bit the bullet and started taking his dress shirts to the cleaners to be laundered and pressed along with his suits to be dry cleaned., We have morphed over many years from me buying his necessities like shirts, underwear, socks and washing/folding his laundry (mind you, I had a professional career but his mother always did this) to the stage now where he and I have segregated laundry baskets for our respective clothes. I do mine, he does his.

Part of our neighbor's point was that fabrics and construction take a beating by being laundered or cleaned 'just because', when a little airing and brushing would be all that was necessary. In his profession, he had extensive knowledge of clothing and was particular about his fine woolen suits.

Neither DH nor I (Seniors) are apt to 'break a sweat' in the course of a day now. Different when he commuted into the city for work and I was 'Mom', housekeeper, gardener, etc. DH's shirts were done by a laundry.

I have always re-used towels, but not face cloths. Unless your aren't getting *clean* when you wash, towels get damp, not dirty,. Ours air dry before a second use. I don't bathe daily either -- another 'as needed' change from more active years, and better for my thinning skin. I also 'sluice off' in shower or tub before drying myself.

My wash amount is the same,but I do the daughters 2 times a week. At her house I do two loads less. This is because the boys all do school from home. This means less showers ( fewer towels) and the 9 year old has learned how to get away with wearing the same things for 2 or 3 days in a row most times.

Clothes and towels accumulate skin cells, hair, etc., from being worn/used one time. Even if you're clean when you get out of the shower, that towel removes a LOT of skin/hair from your body. If you look at said towel under a microscope, it's gross! lol

I was watching a YouTube video about a couple that lives in their tiny trailer camping on public lands. The woman commented that one of the hardest lessons she had to learn with their lifestyle change was that being dirty was okay. Personally, I find watching her prepare food and make items for sale with dirty fingernails offputting, but I wonder if our focus on hypercleanliness is driven by real need or has it been induced by the constant bombardment of advertisements from the makers of cleaning products?

Been retired to very casual clothes for a couple years now, so no impact from Covid. I do more laundry in summer than in winter, because we sweat more and shower/change into clean dry clothes after gardening, walking, yardwork, etc. All those tshirts add up. Three or four loads per week for the two of us keep us sanitary and decently clean. I'm not going to be a slave to laundry. Or compete for "whiter than white" whites (as a person no longer in my real-world life used to do). If that's your hobby, enjoy it, but it's not mine.

edited to add: it doesn't bother me at all to hang up jeans, sweatshirts, or tshirts to air overnight and wear again the next day. If I know for sure I'll be seeing the same people today as yesterday, I might alternate t-shirts.

I have reduced laundry to once or twice a month. It depends on if I am doing something to become dirty. It could be just my clothing in one load or a second load of sheets/towels. Several years ago my skin was becoming very itchy and my doctor asked how frequently I showered or bathed. He then suggested that I try showering will slightly cooler water but only once or twice weekly unless I was doing something strenuous and was sweating. It worked. I am of the school that if you need to wash your bath towel after each use either you are still too dirty or it is habit. With a drought starting to reform in this area I am again seeing flyers from the city and utilities on how to save water and some have had that suggestion. If you remember several years ago California had a major drought with all kinds of water saving suggestions. Most of which people on here would cringe and not do.

I'm doing lots more laundry -- because I can! I'm used to living in a building that doesn't permit w/d in the apartments, and having to go down to the basement to use shared machines. But since Covid, I've been living in a house way out in the country. I'm not crazy about being out here and looking forward to when my husband is ready to go back to the city. I much, much prefer apartment living. But as long as I'm stuck out here, I look for the positives. And one positive is that we have our own washer and dryer! And I've discovered that I love doing laundry. I like the smell of the detergent, even though it's "scent free." I love pulling the warm laundry out of the dryer. I even enjoy folding it, especially the towels. I also like that I can just sit around, yet feel like I'm accomplishing something.

Definitely doing less laundry since I'm not going through work clothes every week!

And same about the underwear and socks, but I have more than a week's worth of fresh ones on hand. My weekly load of apparel isn't even half a load, since the weather's been hot up until now. Maybe it'll increase now that it's cooled off a bit and I'm wearing more bulky things than shorts and tank tops 😉
