The rug is fine - just be sure to include that color in the room - in your accessories, throws, pillows, and/or wall decor (for a united look). Please be sure your seating area is close enough so you can have a comfortable conversation with others. The lighting may work better if it's a table lamp or sconce in each corner at chest height.

The sofa and chair are too far from the fireplace . But yes, 10x15 ish seems correct . I’d use the part by the window for a table and chairs and move the sofa and chair closer to the fireplace .

I do like the look of those cotton rugs but I find that they are really hard to vacuum. They get sucked up very easily with every move of the vacuum even with a not so powerful model. Personally I found that so frustrating that I only buy small ones like that which can be taken outside and shaken.

Are you concerned about being able to use the rug in a future rental? 9x12 would be a more reasonable size to be able to reuse in the future. A synthetic fiber rug will keep the price down and is a better direction if you have a dog in terms of spot cleaning.

Check into washable rugs at ruggable.com I think if you keep the two torchiere lamps you should pull them out of the bay and into the two corners flanking it

You'll find plenty of styles/patterns at ruggable. Your space is neutral so just go with one that makes you smile. 9 x 12 is their largest one. You can get a runner or a 3 x 5 to match to put in the foyer area if you like.

When I looked for an area carpet I got overwhelmed by the pure number of sites and rugs. I looked at ruggables, but didn't like the reviews after washing, so I decided to just go with a standard area rug.

I think I ended up going to Bed Bath and Beyond and going through their entire inventory of rugs in the size I needed and I threw about 20 into my cart, then looked through those and narrowed it down to half a dozen, then I looked at those 1/2 dozen next to a picture of my sofa and found that a couple were too bright, a couple were too light and one seemed perfect.

I copied the picture of the rug and did an google image search and found the best price for the same carpet was actually on Houzz.

I ordered the one from BBB and once it came in and I decided I really did like it I took it back to BBB, asked if they would match the Houzz price ($150.00 less), they would not, so I returned the carpet and ordered the one for less money from Houzz. I didn't initially order from Houzz because it did not offer free returns and I didn't want to pay a fortune to return a carpet if it wasn't well portrayed in the pictures. I had chosen BBB partially because I could return anything if I wasn't happy to the local BBB store.

To give advice on what carpet you might like really requires us to understand your taste, likes and dislikes.

This is the one I bought for my living room, but I like botanical, tropical and geometric designs and wanted to add color to a light room with a cream sofa. It will work well with my art, which is mostly wildlife.

We would need to know a lot more about you to recommend an area rug that will fit with your personal style and color preference.
