How large should my area rug be?
Comments (7)Fyi - Nate Berkus (who no longer has his Home Decorating TV show) had a lot of fans including me. His advice about rugs was that the larger they were, the more expansive they made the room feel. So if you are wanting the room to be more expansive than cozy, according to his rule, 10 inches from the sides of the room in all directions would be a good thing. Even with the traditional style of the room now, I think a large rug as you describe will make it feel a lot more contemporary. If that is not what you want, then keep the rug small. Otherwise, the sky is the limit. Though I am a newbie at this stuff, I will offer my opinion that I think the room will be stunning with the larger rug. As far as the hutch, I don't see a visual problem with it being half on and half off but if I were you, I would seek professional advice on how to make sure the addition of the new rug doesn't add instability to the hutch. Good luck and thanks very much for showing us pictures of your living room....See Moreis 2' too much space at end of area rug?
Comments (2)I have a 17' long entry way with a 5' long rug. I am SO screwed if 2' is too much at the end :) I actually think your 2' border around the rug sounds very nice, anything much less and you might as well have wall to wall carpet there....See MoreNeed help on area rug sizing and placement for large space
Comments (13)Esmaili Rugs and Antiques, Inc. ingrid_vc so. CA zone 9 I like the light colored one best I think... and I definitely want a modern pattern. I found a local retailer who can do custom size rugs (even custom variations of rug patterns in store with colors we match / pick out). I checked this one out. Was thinking I could even change the black to blue? But I kind of like the black for contrast. Or is that too many colors? Or should I go for more COLOR? I need COLOR IN MY LIFE! But, I could do that with pillows, art, and accessories..... ? I am planning on doing automatic shades, not drapes, in this room.. prob neutral so won't add much color. Also, don't mind the outdoor furniture that's all bunched up against the window... and I just put the orange pillows on the sofa to try and get some color going for reference. You all are so much help!...See Moresectional too large in open area
Comments (4)I think the sectional is fine for the size of the room - IMO, it's everything else that needs to be larger. Also, I think you have the room, I would pull the sectional back to cover the rug behind it or at the very least add a big sofa table to fill the space....See MoreCDR Design, LLC
