HELP! Need help elevating/finishing modern tropical bathroom

Hi!

I'm looking for some help to tie my wannabe modern tropical bathroom together. I think this bathroom can be salvaged without too much heavy lifting or killing my pocketbook :-) I love the banana leaf shower curtain but am having trouble pulling all the other elements together to make it feel complete.

The vanity is a dark brown wood, the walls are grey, the floor/sink area is a grey/white marble and all of the hardware (towel holders, faucets, etc.) is silver. I'm having trouble deciding which color towels, bath mats, wall art, etc. would make this room feel more cohesive.

This is our guest bathroom and the bathroom that gets mostly used by company when we have people over or are entertaining.

Only thing I'm married to is the shower curtain but any and all suggestions and input are welcomed and greatly appreciated! :-) THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I like the shower curtain. Is the paint color negotiable? The grey seems a little cold for the space. What are the floors?

I wouldn't get too many theme items. You want the space to have a tropical vibe and not look like the tropical aisle of bed, bath and beyond. One nice large print like the choices shown below would look great.

-Green towels - pick a green you like from the shower curtain and get the closest match - I'd steer away from the very darkest shade of green, though.

-Bath mat - either a lighter shade of green on the curtain (maybe not the same as the towels, though) or perhaps the same gold/brown that's on the curtain.

-Art - something tropical looking and colorful! Some examples:

Yup, that's right. Blanco. They sent me a few samples of all the whites they have (no charge!) and I picked the truest, whitest white... the others were greyer, or bluer. I also wanted a more monolithic look, not the varied look that seems more common in glass mosaic installations, where there are irridescent and slightly different whites mixed in. Most places only sell those mixes, I found. Be aware that they do take on a cooler, bluer tone when set in thinset that's called white (but actually grey). If keeping it as white as possible is important to you, find a true white thinset. I'm now happy with the color, but was bummed at first because it didn't go with my original design palette (creamy whites and tan/neutrals). But the new palette works too!

olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? New light paint color for the walls pulled from the tile will make a big difference. I would price replacing the counter with a lighter, quieter prefab laminate counter. They aren't terribly expensive and might be within your budget. A six-foot version is around $100 plus install. The color choices are limited. I think that's a good idea. you can de-gloss them (they have a deglossing product at home depot or amazon) and then give them a decent sanding with 150/220 grit paper. clean off w/mineral spirits. get a spray primer in the can like Zinsser oil base primer a give a full, but light coat. when dry, fine sand easily w/220or 320 grit. wipe clean. Now you can paint. Use BM Advance paint. I've painted many wood furniture pieces and this paint has the best finish. As for tile, give me a hint of what design you like and i'll give you some picks. Also, can you post a pic of the whole room (the vanity wall and any other walls?) another budget idea is to check w/stone yards or the fabricators warehouse and ask him if he has any remnant stone tops. a lot of time they will trash those smaller pieces. you need something in 50"X24" range. (it's a 48" vanity, yes? ) Also, check craigslist. you can find some good deals on leftovers. and check stone yard or larger tile place for pre-fab countertops. my place has a ton of these quartz, marble granite,,, they're already finished and ready to fit on top of vanities want something a bit more dramatic and bold? Pick the black quartz w/the white veining, do a black and white floor tile bring in some black metal faucet and sconces, and do a white tile in back of the vanity if there's a shower in there, match the tile in the shower w/the quartz top paint the vanity black, do a white quartz/marble top or paint your vanity like this. basketweave marble tile want bold? pick a bold color for the vanity. and do a full on wall of these matte black subway tiles. (if you could stain your vanity slightly darker and change out your hardware, you could get this look) another one w/similar wood tone. do an entire wall of tile, pick a cool floor tile, sconces

yeah, gray and tropical don't go together.

Paint the walls another color. Maybe paint that one wall green, and the other walls white

get some shelves over the toilet, if you do art on the other wall.

how about some faux succulents plants? you could do something like this on the large bare wall and fill these w/faux succulents or other plants. easy to do w/wood dowels. paint the wall green, or paint the wall white and do the wood. or paint the wood dowels a bold color.

you have the full wall there, add some art, or some shelving, some type of plants,,,

This would be a cool paint treatment. they have those rollers that roll out the design in the paint. faux bois

you may want to paint the vanity white, perhaps add some gold accents

or, paint the vanity a green shade

yes, even pink works w/the shower curtain!

The wall colour doesn’t work. You have to go much lighter to give it a bright, replica feel. Then add I. Some accessories and decor, Beth posted some great examples above

Thank you all! Great comments and I couldn't agree more. If I did paint the walls white, do you still think I should paint vanity white? vs. black? and then what color floating shelves for above the toilet with white wall?

Also, I'm no confident in my paint skills (trying to scrounge pennies where possible since we had a couple other home improvements done recently) but I am confident in my wall papering skills. Any thoughts there? :-) THANKS AGAIN you guys rock!!!
