New to GW, kitchen in progress, flooring dilemma!
Comments (10)Thanks for the welcome! boxer, those are very similar except the cabinet style is a simple shaker. I believe the color is very close. The sample we have is a few years old so it has darkened some. A nice preview of what is to come. I'm personally drawn to the darker one, multicolor. I'm hoping light walls and backsplash will be enough to keep it from looking like a cave. It would be nice to also put the same tile by the front door (in a different size) to tie things together. I feel like either tile would look beautiful, I just don't want to pick the wrong one and wish I had the other. Probably the most difficult kitchen decision so far!...See MoreProgress Update 2 On Our $8500 Condo Kitchen Remodel 1 Week Left!
Comments (7)The floor is a semi hopscotch pattern. The 13 x 13 brown tiles vary in color and match perfectly with the granite. The lighter 6x6 tiles we really feel break up the darkness of the floor and look great. Whats great is the 6x6's will match perfectly with the tile back splash. We are using 2x2 witch are the same color as the 6x6's we are also doing a decorative pattern along the wall and something special I'm going to make you all wait for for the "wow" factor. The granite is called bay brook brown it has light and dark browns, black, cream, and golden flecks. the granite perfectly matches with the floor and you can find all the colors in it. those who say you cant do a total gut renovation on a budget must be crazy. All it takes is some shopping around. We spent many weekends in Lowes and Home Depot picking the perfect tile and ascents I think we are proof of what such little money can do and we are very proud of that!...See MoreKitchen Remodel In Progress
Comments (9)Thanks for the comments/compliments! bmorepanic, I had to look back for the "safety slippers" ;>) Probably wouldn't be OSHA approved, but then, that is one privilege of do-it-yourself! The curved front detail adjacent to the sink was recommended by my granite contractor (Lowes) in response to my concerns about water and things falling off behind the faucet. It did turn out rather nice even if it was for functionality. dianalo, the two stoves is because I had the electric stove already and added the gas as an afterthought. We have hurricanes and electrical outages. I guess I could have gone just gas since I prefer it for making jellies, candies, and even when you need to simmer on really low heat. Issues I'm still working on and would really appreciate input (as always) are: Where to put the garbage so it is easy to access from the sink but also to keep from having to go all the way to the sink when clearing the dining room table. How to trim out the recessed backsplash behind the stoves. I am leaning to Absolute Black granite, 12" tiles cut and shaped to form a pieced border about 2-3" wide. A "keystone" at the top might enhance the look. I am going with a tumbled travertine "subway" style brick on 12" mats for the rest of the backsplash....See MoreWork progress on Kitchen remodel before finished in May 2016
Comments (55)Wednesday came and went. Guy was really dragging his feet to get in 6 lower cabinets. Then, he placed scribe molding. I stopped it. I have these beautiful panels and I wish to keep them that way. In an ideal world with an unlimited budget I would have had the board scribed. He tipped me over the edge with a couple comments, including that I was having him take away more cardboard than what was packaged around the cabinets. Beware my contract said nothing about sweep clean up, it did say he would remove the cardboard for $9.00 (prepaid)....See MoreLeo
