bmorepanic, I had to look back for the "safety slippers" ;>) Probably wouldn't be OSHA approved, but then, that is one privilege of do-it-yourself!

The curved front detail adjacent to the sink was recommended by my granite contractor (Lowes) in response to my concerns about water and things falling off behind the faucet. It did turn out rather nice even if it was for functionality.

dianalo, the two stoves is because I had the electric stove already and added the gas as an afterthought. We have hurricanes and electrical outages. I guess I could have gone just gas since I prefer it for making jellies, candies, and even when you need to simmer on really low heat.

Issues I'm still working on and would really appreciate input (as always) are:
Where to put the garbage so it is easy to access from the sink but also to keep from having to go all the way to the sink when clearing the dining room table.
How to trim out the recessed backsplash behind the stoves. I am leaning to Absolute Black granite, 12" tiles cut and shaped to form a pieced border about 2-3" wide. A "keystone" at the top might enhance the look. I am going with a tumbled travertine "subway" style brick on 12" mats for the rest of the backsplash.

Pepper, thanks, good point. I know I appreciate the in-line photos when I'm researching and I am buried a couple of levels here. I am marching forward with the black granite. I bought a box today and will begin planning cuts for framing the arched backsplash.

I will point out that you'll likely clear the table to the sink area. I'm not a 100% sure where your dw will be - I'm guessing beside the electric range?

IF that's where the dw goes, it will open in front of the sink and I think pretty effectively blocks something over half of the sink. Your body is going take up the rest of the space in front of the sink and the opposing cabinets in the peninsula, preventing trash from being located there or under the sink.

Given the rest of your layout, you'll likely do most of your prep to the left or right of the sink. I'm not seeing another sink in the other peninsula. Prep generates bulk trash!

You could put trash on the opposite side - across the aisle or beside the far range - but you'll sometimes need to carry drippy crap across the floor. All in all, I'd do a can that sits out with a floor pedal right off the end of the peninsula wrap around counter.

There is no rule that says you can't have another can or a recycling can in a pullout somewhere on the longer run.

bmore, thanks for the input and yes, the dw will be to the left of the electric range. You hit all my issues with garbage disposal. Most of my prep will probably be in the large area in the peninsula. I have re-prioritized my design several times along the way and the garbage keeps getting shuffled to a new location. I'm actually considering a drop-hole through the countertop. Hopefully someone will talk me out of that but it seems like such an easy way to discard garbage (and even cuttings and such from veggie and fruit prep) that will occurr on the countertop. My only real issue with that is that I want that kind of stuff covered and sealed to prevent humidity, gnats, and odor issues. That type trash needs to go out of the house on a daily basis so if there is a visually appealing way to have a 12" diameter hole in ones granite countertops, I'm all ears :>) It could possibly be done with a wood cookie jar type lid.
