Thanks for loving them too! We are so happy to have found these and trying to be patient waiting for them to be installed. But just having them sit there free-standing has greatly improved the look of the room as we'd imagined it would be. We'll have the glass door facing the living room as shown. The desk is actually being used by our son most days as he is a historical preservationist working on our local theater restoration, writing articles documenting the history of the buildings in our town, etc. The colonnades have defined the office and he looks very dignified in this space. When the two closets are relocated to the left side of this room the area will also serve as the foyer area with a coat closet (the other closet will open to the adjacent bedroom)

For the ceiling, I would leave the drywall, cut holes as necessary and add (glue and screw) new drywall over the existing ceiling. I'm in an area with a large percentage of pre-WWII housing and working in an older house can be a challenge. My preferred electrician is an old house guy who understands how to run wires and where to cut holes to get maximum benefit for minimum disruption. If you are lucky enough to have a single story with attic access, there's very few spots that need patching. Some electricians can't seem to run wires unless they can see every single stud and other obstruction. Painters and electricians have quite a bit of friction since electricians trim out after walls are painted and painters have to touch up afterwards. Something about black fingerprints or smudges on a fresh white ceiling irritates the painters every time.

To groveraxle: When I said.." there is no other place for piano.." I mean that in our apartment, we don't have any other place to move piano ( den or bedrooms). Only place it is living room. And yes, I will definitely move piano to the other wall, next to the book shelf. See, I have more plans to update the room. I want pain wall some different color, want to strip popcorn ceiling, the bookshelf I want to re make it with more lighter material and not as deep as present and may be add glass doors. Also not sure about carper on the floor, should change it to wood floor? It all project for later but I want to see whole picture for the room and I find it really hard Thanks again for helping =)

Stay with it Keli O, i had some of same issues wanting to make my living room more of what makes me happy and keeping a lot of what I love but using the furniture in a better way. These current and other willing and so very talented people helped me to the utmost, to say the least. I love what has happened to my new living room, still need to make some suggested changes to curtains and accessories, but so more than happy with the outcome. Could not have ever ever been able to make the changes myself, cannot say enough about HOUZZ helpers and patients they had with me. Yea, lol, i was moving and changing and re-arranging night and day, even stood on my head and jumped through a hoop but it was necessary and so worth it, ok I put in my 2 cents....looking good
