We just bought salvaged built in bookcase colonnades. These are bookcases with columns that are installed in a doorframe. We will use them to divide an office end from the living room which is currently all open.

I'm having the carpenter out this week to talk about the job, and just can't seem to decide which direction to set them. One side is paneled, and very nicely matches our front door which they might face. The other side has mullioned glass doors that are very pretty. It would make sense that the doors face the small desk side, but then they would not be seen much. I'm considering facing the bookcases towards the main room, and wondering if that would just be "wrong".

So look at the pictures (in my house, not correctly spaced apart and without the doorframe attached, but if you scroll back you will see them in the salvage warehouse all put together, and also some pictures of the space where they will be placed (when it was empty).

Which direction would you place these?
