How can make better use of my living room?
Comments (5)I'd start by looking at the whole house and how you use each room. Then I'd look at what you want to do in your house and how easy/difficult it is to do each activity. It sounds to me as though you have done a lot of work to make the house work for you--you now have a combined gathering space and kitchen, you've made the den into a dining room. What else do you need? If you have small children, the living room could become a playroom. Or homework room. Or hangout for teenagers--their own space, but close enough to kitchen and other places the adults are for some supervision. Do you need a quiet, grown-up space away from the kids? This room could become your own personal retreat from the rest of the family. You could set it up so that you can invite friends over for a cup of tea there, or a game night. The living room could also become a library, if you have a lot of books. Add in bookshelves, a desk and comfy reading chairs. Or it could become rehearsal space for your rock band. Or a hobby and craft space, if you like to quilt or sew or paint or whatever. Or take all the furniture out and make it a yoga studio. Don't think of it as a living room. Think of it as a space where you can do whatever you want to do. This post was edited by camlan on Mon, Mar 3, 14 at 9:04...See MoreHow can I make this TV wall look better?
Comments (69)We have a rainy day here so I've been playing....beginning to think maybe less IS more: I moved the other two prints and put them on the walls beside the FP. I am warming up to this now; maybe I was used to having four prints, and now that they are still in the room, it maintains the continuity I was used to. And......back to the chairs; a pair of these PB chairs has been hiding in the recesses of our CL: Pottery Barn Calais chair in leather They are almost brand new so not exactly a fire sale price; they are asking $500 for the pair. I think that's a little high, but assuming the price was right, do you think they would finish things off well? Or should I leave well enough alone? I'd purchase them only if they are more comfortable than what I have, and I won't know that until I see them. I can't test the link until I post, but in case it doesn't show the right one, the CL chairs are brown leather with espresso stain legs. I still really like the sconces but wonder if this is just as nice in some ways. I am now looking at my FP and wondering if the sconces would look good on either side of my mirror! But, no worries, that will have to wait for another day, lol!...See MoreHow can I make this room look better?
Comments (8)I think you're off to a great start. The furniture, bedding and wall colors are attractive and modern. I doubt you want to spend a lot of $$$$ on the space so I'd start with a few colorful accessories (lamps, a throw for the bed, etc.). Do you need a clothes hamper? A beautiful basket might be a nice addition. How about a plant or two? Keep you eyes open for some inexpensive art pieces that speak to you. Hit a few garage and estate sales and see what you can dig up. Posters can be a good option too. Measure carefully then head to Michaels, coupon in hand, and buy pre-made frames for little cash. Take your time and have fun. And be sure to leave a little space for your brother....See MoreHow can I make my doors look better?
Comments (2)I would clean the door well, and apply a scratch cover touch up in the color of the doors. The scratches are not that bad, and wont even be noticable. The black hardware should look good, if it matches in with other black hardware in your home....See MoreMelissa R
