Fought to the end. I was impressed that he kept on going. His show was the perfect mix of mentally stimulating but non-controversial entertainment to cook dinner to. A friendly household name for as long as I remember. I’ll definitely miss him.

And with an extremely high mortality rate. Pancreatic cancer is most often fatal. And not all are especially elderly - Patrick Swayze, Michael Landon and Steve Jobs all died in their 50's.

A loving husband, good man, generous, he has been donating his considerable salary for years. He was even handy with household repairs. He will be missed.

My daughter just text me about Alex. So sad 😢. I enjoy watching him on Jeopardy and I have been watching his old game shows on YouTube.

He stood the test of time. I can't say I ever understood why. He seemed stiff to me. I was drawn to the premise but didn't appreciate him so watching never became a habit. He's in a better place now. May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace.

DH and I will miss him so much as we watched Jeopardy every night. He fought this disease courageously, never complaining and with a great deal of dignity. RIP, Alex. Deepest sympathies to his family.

Very sorry to hear that. RIP Alex. We often watch his quiz show during the week. I knew he wouldn’t have much time left when he announced his diagnosis last year, but he had held up quite remarkably. Wonder if Ken Jennings will become the next host.

I watched his biography on tv, He built a town in Africa including water--he said what does anyone need all this money for. He said he drove a pickup truck and didn't need anything fancy. He will be missed and so sorry about his passing.

I'm so sad. He was a great guy and will be greatly missed.

It seems sad at this moment, to consider that Alex Trebek's name could appear on Jeopardy in the new year, but upon reflection, I think he would feel honoured to actually be a part of the show he loved so much.

Ah, too bad. This is almost always a fatal diagnosis. It was surprising he survived this long. Still, eighty is a fine old age, and he accomplished a lot. He will be missed by a wide range of people who 'knew' him through Jeopardy.

He was great as host of Jeopardy. He is going to be hard to replace. I’m going to check out the bio that was mentioned. It sounds like he was a fine human being.

My husband and I loved watching. Sometimes we’d get in the groove and watch each night, sometimes not. Maybe it’s during the colder months? We haven’t watched lately.

My father loved this program back when Art Fleming hosted. I guess he got me into it.

I was sorry to hear this. I watch Jeopardy every night, and have been thinking he looks remarkably well. Of course, the shows are taped well in advance, but still . . .

Did we decide they tape four months ahead? Someone told me he worked through September, so that would mean we'll see him on the show through the end of the year at least. He'll be missed.

He taped his last show on Oct 29th and they will air right through to December.

The radio said today that he'd made a commitment for an appearance in Ottawa a few months ago, I think for some charitable agency, and kept it.

He surely offered a great example to aim for, didn't he?

This is such sad news. It was expected but I thought he had rallied so I was surprised. He lived a great life as a truly decent human being.

It is sad news. He most definitely will be missed. I enjoyed watching the show; it is hard to imagine it without him.

ABC is showing Alex Trebek Remembered right now at 10 PM EST.

That was a great show ABC had on this evening. I learned more than I knew about Alex. His wife is very pretty.

I wish I'd seen the ABC special. Here's something from a CNN email this morning:

When the producers of "Jeopardy" announced Trebek's death, they also revealed that he produced new episodes of the game show up until the end of October, just a week and a half ago. Cabrera asked Richards: "Did you know it was going to be the last?" Richards said no, but "he was in pain and we knew it. He'd had surgery. I couldn't believe he was already back from the surgery that he'd had just two weeks before that. I had chills the entire tape day. That first show of that final week, which is, unbelievably, [scheduled to air] the week of Christmas, he gives a speech talking about togetherness, how important family is, and it will resonate even more now. It was so beautiful."

Richards added, "He was at the top of his game, even though clearly he was very ill."

So sad to loose him. Jeopardy is the one show we never miss, taping it if we can't watch at broadcast time. Alex, a gentleman, a class act from start to finish.

Just read that his final new show will be broadcast on Christmas night.

2020 is having an hour show about him this Sunday night.

It seems like Alex T. was universally liked. That is no small feat.

There was never any controversy surrounding him. A class act.

Few survive this disease, but I know one woman who did. She had sudden, crippling pain one day, was diagnosed, had surgery to remove a lobe of her pancreas, and has survived for over a dozen years. Pain can be a good thing!

She did say that the recovery was long. Evidently it's a lot like some car repairs, where *everything* has to come out to get to the problem 'part', then everything has to be reconnected.

chisue, learning of a family member's pancreatic cancer, I went online and found a forum where a few people had survived many years after having had it, so were basically 'cured.' But in those few cases, they didn't waste a lot of time before seeing a doctor, for the discomfort they were experiencing. They all had the Whipple procedure along with chemotherapy. Two are more than 10 year survivors and 1 is a 23 year survivor.

My relative unfortunately did not go see a doctor until he began feeling really fatigued, accompanied by some abdominal pain he'd had for 2 months. His abdominal pain was not severe, so he assumed that changing his diet had created an irritable stomach. He only survived 8 months, and sadly, his wife still blames herself for not being able to convince him to see a doctor earlier than he did.
