Tub/shower combo or tub and shower stall
Comments (15)I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Comments (5)Hi Cassie, I am right there with you as far as removing a tub and putting in the same receptor. First if you don't have help you will need it for at least one step of the process. If the tub is cast iron you can bust it up into smaller pieces with a sledge hammer (eye and ear protection, of course). If you have a standard tub configuration then the receptor is made so you don't need to make any plumbing changes. If you currently have a right hand drain the positioning should be the same. Don't forget to order the drain as it doesn't come with it. I am looking at the same model (in Sea Salt) and just to let you know Kohler quoted that piece as weighing 193 pounds. So a few extra hands will be needed As far as the drain size goes I assume there is an adapter. Shower doors.... I have been searching for exactly what you describe and here is what I've found. Kohler has something pretty cool yet costly and I don't think it comes in the size we want. Look up K-705791 on their site. This is a bypass doe with fixed panels. This is another I found, its a company out of Canada, yet they claim its available in the US. Look here and I know you will really like it. Let me know if you have luck getting local info. http://www.kinetikhardware.com/ I hope it help and I would love to see your project and its completed look....See Moreneed help figuring out waste/overflow on air tub

Comments (6)Yes, the plumbing needs to be done first. Yes, you may be able to just get another acrylic shower wall to cover over everything, if the wall is not moldy or wet behind the tile that you are looking at. There is no need to replace the tub itself if it is in good shape, even if you do decide to take down the wall tile and replace everything from the studs out. Just make sure the workers cover the tub well to protect it while the work is being done. I am with Monicakm_gw, get some more bids for the work. You might want to have them bid on just replacing the walls with new fiberglass, and on doing the whole new tile job, too. You can see new walls at Lowes, Home Depot, and Menard's online. There is also the whole Marbleite wall option to look into. Local dealers for Marbelite are supposed to be cheaper than buying from big box stores, if I remember right. While you are fixing plumbing, you should probably put in a proper mixing valve to protect from scalds. It is the code now. No one will be able to turn the water too hot to burn themselves and flushing the toilet or using the water elsewhere in the house will not burn the person in the shower anymore, either. I have read the experts here on the forum say that the Symmons Temptrol system is very good and is a good value. Here is one that comes with the shower head and tub spout for under $100. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Symmons-Temptrol-1-Handle-Tub-and-Shower-Faucet-in-Chrome-S-96-2/100643619...See MorePeke
