Vaulted ceiling lighting advice for large multi use area

Hi! I have a large living area that includes the entry, kitchen, dining and living area in 1 large space with a vaulted ceiling. I really want to updated the lights over the kitchen island, remove the track lighting over the living area and add a chandelier over the dining room table. The problem is i can’t decide - should we do a large chandelier over the dining table and smaller pendents the kitchen island and entry - or do 2 smaller chandeliers, one over the island and another over the dining? I’m big on symmetry but I don’t think that is posible here with out skylights and layout so wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for lighting types in our unique space? Really struggling with this one.

First, we need to address the utility part of the lighting. for example is your kitchen underlit at night? Do you read in your living room, have floor lamps? Lastly, I don't see electrical in your dining area have you established you can get it there? Oh and why are there two hanging lights in the entry? HMMM

The kitchen is not underlit at night but I want that eventually, and we have no floor lamps. I haven’t considered adding floor lighting. We can get electrical over the dining table if wanted. I know the lights are weird now - not sure what the people who remodeled were thinking. It’s a challenge for sure!

LED strip lights that come in a roll are typically low voltage DC. Some may not be bright enough to provide sufficient indirect lighting. The more powerful strips will need to dissipate heat through the the PCB they're attached to. That in turn means that the PCB becomes less flexible and potentially more fragile. In addition, you'll need extensive wiring, multiple power supplies and planning - to account for line current loss and voltage drop. All of which will need to meet electrical code. If I were to do it, I'd go with the Philips Powercore lighting system which uses AC power instead and is probably more practical for large scale deployment in homes. I would go with the 2700k for most areas. except for a study/ work area that would be used late into the night. A higher color temp impairs the production of melatonin which could result in difficulty sleeping. Use the flat ceiling can & trim if the angle is <= 15 degrees. The CR6 and similar lights (RT6, ...) tend to have more light spillage than the BR or PAR bulbs used in recessed lighting i.e. - less of a spotlight effect. Some people may find it tricky to get the lamps fit. If the ceiling is high - 10' or more, indirect / cove lighting may be more elegant and practical.

Hi, here are a couple of ideas to play with. With such an open space the particular style you are referring to may not fill the space as nicely and may simply wash away. Also you may not get very good direct light on the table it self. ^^^what RL said. I love good layered lighting and personally dislike can lighting especially in high ceilings. If most concerned about evening, lamps both floor and table along with possibly some floor wall wash lights to highly ceiling and corners would play nice in these rooms. Once you get furniture in, it is easier to decide where lighting is best. All remote control plugs help and dimmers. As to the dining light, shape is nice if it mirrors shape of table. Most make the mistake of hanging lighting too high. If you are keeping that dining light, you need it lower. But if they cut the wires at the junction box and didn’t leave extra wire up there, you will need new fixture. Re wiring fixtures usually costs more than comparable fixture. I think this can be a stunning home. Don’t scrimp on lighting. It will “make” your home.

try something like this

or see if you can attach anything to the beams

you could also do a faux beam wrap around your other beam and insert the lighting in it
