Final Decision on Counter Stools

Hi all,

We're trying to make a decision on our counter stools in our kitchen and are having a difficult time making a decision based on the colors in our kitchen. Our kitchen island is a blue-gray, our perimeter cabinets are white, our backsplash is gray, and our dining set is a cherry wood. Below is a photo for your reference. We would place the stools right under the island counter.

We have narrowed it down to 2 options, with the difference being the color of the wood. We are considering both aesthetics and durability as part of our decision.

Option A: Gray Wash wood with navy blue fabric

Option B: Antique White wood with navy blue fabric

What do you think?

So IMO a no back stool with kids is an accident in waiting. Also velvet and kids not so much. I like swivel stools to save wear and tear on floors and IMO a nice yellow vinyl would be fun and practical I see that yellow container and it totally caught my eye and something yellow on the table after you take the tablecloth off .You can even get the stools that are adjustable so the kids when they are little can still sit at the counter

I have these, no good with children under 5 or 6 for sure. They are not comfy for a long sit, if it’s quick seating with older kids, they are nice because they tuck right in under the overhang, so they are completely out of the way, thats the one plus. They also would not do well with folks over 200lbs

I am confused that is is called green, yet on your "more views" green is not mentioned in the description. Be that as it may, in going by the description, I don'think you can go wrong with this slab. It has many neutral colors. My suggestion would be to start thinking about the backsplash too. Here is where many of us have had the most difficulty. Do you have an inspiration kitchen? Have you checked the finished kitchen blog and the backsplash slide show? Just a suggestion for a bit dow the road.

Charliehorse.... Meaning that the fridge and run of cabinets immediately adjacent will all be aligned in one flush row. The countertop will overhang the base cabinets and stick out past the fridge. The other option is having the cabinets recessed from the fridge to allow the countertop to die into the side of the fridge. Fori - I just assumed that wouldn't be a problem bc of the number of pictures I have seen, but you make an excellent point....I should certainly check ! Does anyone have pictures of an ogee edge that dies into fridge? Thanks!

You need to choose your "diva". So far, your counters are the star. If you want a wow backsplash, then go with a solid counter. The glass mosaic is trendy and probably on it's way out. Also it plays better with a contemporary kitchen. You have traditional style cabinets. For fun, look at trends in your area. Go to Zillow or Trulia and look at upscale homes. For example, in my area, these homes all have white kitchens and marble. Not saying that you would do that, but it gives you an idea of what is happening in your area. I would be hard pressed to find a glass mosaic backsplash in a recent build.

while the stools work, the dining table is at the other end of the spectrum, design-wise. It really doesn't match the style or colors of the kitchen.

At the very least I'd paint the chairs and reupholster the seats.

by chance, what are your bulb temps in the ceiling? they look a tad warm. you should really have 4000K bulbs in them.

Pretty kitchen. I like the colors.

Hello everyone, thanks for your feedback. Yes, I agree that our dining furniture is a little formal and the cherry wood color of our dining set is tough in our current setting (our prior house had warmer colors and was more traditional, and we kept this set). We ideally want to keep the dining set as is even though it doesn't work as well in our kitchen.

I hear you as it relates to durability of the cloth and since they don't swivel, I could see there being some issues with scraping up our floors. As it relates to other options that swivel, how do you think something like below would work from a design/color standpoint? Thoughts on the wood?
