Powder Bath - Updating Help
Hey Houzzers!
I feel like I'd gone through so many thoughts and ideas for this powder bath, that I'm finally drawing a blank altogether. This place has never misguided me, and we love our home too much to mess up any part of it... so hoping this at least gets my creative process re-started. :)
I'm attaching photos of said powder bath. The entrance to this room is right off the main hall, which leads directly into the kitchen and family room. We always leave the door open, because that pretty arched window adds a lot of light and overall looks beautiful from the hall/kitchen area (and the toilet is invisible from there). I'll attach a photo of how it all looks from the kitchen (and it's important that the design still works with the rest of the main level, since that door stays open).
I'm also going to attach photos of the kitchen and family rooms so that the feel of the first floor is understood. I'll also say that ours is a mostly traditional home, some transitional elements, some chinoiserie... we have a lot of very personal things here from our backgrounds, so some mixed styles. There isn't anything we're against, though my husband is adamant about not wanting a "grandma" look. :)
I love the look of wainscoting and was considering adding that (or maybe beadboard) in this bath.. but not sure if I should. The hallway and living rooms do have wainscoting, so it wouldn't be out of place.

3 years agoFamily room which connects into the kitchen and is basically the same area...
Kitchen, from which this powder room is visible as shown in the initial post... note that the table is getting replaced with a tulip table and rattan chairs (rug that's currently under the kitchen table will be gone), and you can see in the dining room that's peaking out that we have wainscoting all through that side of the house and into the hall.

Rich blue tones with gold framed mirror, fixture, handles & lighting is what comes to mind for me. Comments (10)too bad the contractor didn't try and round those sharp edges on the wall. wouldn't have taken much to do something like this. (ignore the style) I would hang a mirror under your lights and some art or a few shelves on the other wall. vanity tray w/a tall plant or stem leaves will buy some veritcal space. see how they did this one on the side? I also like this black wall in back of the vanity. look for a paint color w/red or pink undertones. you have warm, reddish/yellow flooring, and the countertop is a taupe/beige w/pink slightly yellow undertones. Comments (10)This is a lot of information without seeing a floorplan or photos. The Kohler Underscore tub is a good one; I just put in a tub/shower in a client's guest bath using that model with a glass slider door. If there's room for a separate shower, you could do a configuration in which the undermount tub deck extends into the adjacent shower to form a bench. Like this: Or this: As for the heating, check with your contractor to find out how difficult it would be to move the ducting to the floor or the adjacent wall near the floor. I'm betting it's not that difficult or expensive. As for 72" vanities, those are going to be pretty expensive no matter how you slice it. 3 years agoI LOVE that!! Just showed it to hubby, and he said, "your dream wallpaper - we'd have that in every room of the house if it was up to you"... LOL! I'm sure it'll get vetoed, though - especially by the two seniors living with us. I do love the contrast and how unique it is!
I'm also completely set on sconces. I was thinking something like these...
Now, for the mirror - in all honesty, I wanted to go BIGGER! Is there a reason to go smaller? Is that the trend? Glad I posted on here, always getting a fresh perspective - thank you!anomoley
3 years agoThoughts on something like this? Obviously badly photoshopped, but to give an idea (sconces would be both sides, presumably behind the wall that protrudes there).
Wallpaper to add contrast... dark gray/black, gold accents. Not sure how I feel about this mirror, but I'm not used to small mirrors...
In truth, this is more up my alley - huge, gaudy, antique-y mirror.... I'm assuming this is a big no?
Is there some sort of a rule where size of mirror is concerned?
Also, are round mirrors still a trend? I saw them pop up 5-6 years ago and wasn't sure if they'll look dated in the next year or two?anomoley
3 years agoI feel like I should preface this with a "Dear Diary," because there doesn't seem to be anyone out there... and I'm typing to myself... lol
Just another, lighter color scheme with chevron. I like the fresh look, but not sure whether it's too farmhouse for our place...

3 years agoI like your wall paper choices. Look at Galbraith & Paul's Lotus wallpaper. Their paper is handmade. My friend had the pattern custom colored for her bathroom. It is gorgeous.
