Wonderful ideas - thank you! Love the Man Shed... maybe I can move James and his tv out to a Man Treehouse or a Man Shed? lol. Once he took his coke and pretzels and went and sat in his car when I had the girls over. No one knew where he went. He's a good boy :) It was terribly pathetic to see him sitting there all alone, but very loving :) He's not a sports fan, thankfully and there is already a fridge down there - we're more than halfway there :) I agree about lamps and fuzzy rugs. The fabric is a great idea - I wonder if I can drape it at the ceiling to create a softer ceiling than just floor joists and tons of pipes, wires, ducts etc. Luckily all the walls are either drywalled (not well, but it's something) or concrete bricks. you guys are the best - thanks for all your help!

My usual strong preference for rooms that are meant to be lived in is to plan them to serve us in a variety of ways, and floating a couch in the middle of a normal-size room focused only on a TV, its back to...nothing, is so limited. Doesn't matter how many people have been doing this, there's more to family living than watching TV and a living room needs to accommodate other activities. Like chatting quietly with a friend, sitting together or on the phone. Organizing a club project. Building a dinosaur while dad keeps an eye on the TV. If it were mine, I'd sell the entertainment system and probably put a couch on that end wall, consider reconfiguring the sectional so the short piece backed to the wide top doorway, but the long stretch facing out into the room. Flat screen TV on the short wall in the lower left corner (happily hidden from entry too). Easy chair, or even two, in the middle (swiveling?). A secondary conversation area (chairs or chair and loveseat) by the fireplace. Or a reading corner and in the other perhaps a small card/games/project table or a desk and chair (facing out into the room). All open and sociable. The idea for a backless sofa is also an extremely nice one, but with the combination of a normal-size room and all those doorways/fireplace I would personally definitely pass on two full sofas with backs and otherwise keep the arrangements nicely open to each other for active living. (No neck strain from trying to admire the dinosaur without getting up.)

Its always worth it to move cables so you get your room arranged right. Since you have a basement, you can do it yourself. Put the sofas in an "L" with the long one facing the sliding doors and the short one facing the TV. Then use some painter's tape to tape out the correct rug size to go with them. It should slip under the front 1/3 of both sofas and extend past the outside ends of the "L" a foot or more. Get some furniture sliders or cut the bottoms off of plastic milk or juice jugs and try this arrangement to see what you think. Since the ceiling fan looks to be mounted above a dining area which you're not using that way, you might want to consider saving up for recessed lighting in this whole space.

Removei hear you. I would definitely mount the tv to a wall. There’s a lot of things going on in the room and I feel like here , less is more. The stone is probably not structural. Is the other side of the wall stone also? Or sure remove it!! If hubby likes stone we can maybe add some stone tile or something. Something more updated tho. As far as the couch goes what’s the room past this room. What do the two brown doors lead to? If they go to the same room maybe we can close one up or something.
