Master Bedroom Window not centered on plans
Comments (12)My architect originally put my windows in the corner, the new style, and I didn't think I'd like it so I had my DH take out those and put just one in what I thought was the center of the wall. Then when I went to look at it I realized it wasn't centered. I too first thought I'd just cover the imperfection with drapes, but then thought, no I couldn't live with that. So my solution was take the window out all together and put in a single glass door that opens to the porch. I'm not sure I'm going to be happy with this decision, but it's too late now. I do get a lot of light into the bedroom from the master bath and I made sure to put in a lot of lights, recessed and otherwise. I thought I might put curtains on that wall behind the bed that would expand the entire wall and have the recessed lights shine on them and that would give a feeling of "windows." Oh well, at least I hope so. This is my first home build so I had no idea how differently things look in person than they do on those plans. I've learned now though!!...See MoreOff center master bedroom windows and weird design. Please help.
Comments (19)If you take out that one wall, there is still the issue of where to place the bed. Do you have measurements or a floor plan of the suite? I wonder...what if you actually extended the right-hand wall, and moved the doorway to the left? Then you could place the bed with the head against the wall. Or...how long is the wall between the bedroom door and the little niche? Is it long enough to be a doorway, and close up the existing doorway? From the way light falls, it looks like there is a door to another bedroom just to the left of the MBR door, is that right?...See MoreBedroom with off center windows and alot of blank wall space
Comments (8)I like your bedside tables but they are too big for the current location. They feel too visually tight and the one at the door overlaps the door frame - against the visual rules, looks weird. I agree with DM. It looks to me that the wall to place the front of the bed is the one opposite the closet/bathroom door wall. I cannot tell if you have enough room at the end of the bed to do this. It need not be a full wall of solid fabric draperies. It could be translucent fabric. Check out The Shade Store or Smith & Noble Draperies. Or there is always IDEA for a really cheap solution. It's ok if you see the door through the draperies. That should do the trick to pull the room together....See MoreMaster bedroom & off center beam
Comments (6)Thank you for responding and for your interest. I’m not sure if I’m properly relating the GCs idea here - but he suggested putting the beam above the ceiling but not sure how we can slide it in since this is a second floor and we haven’t looked for an entrance from the outside such as a vent. We are in the beginning stages and haven’t started demo or anything so at this point, I’m open to suggestions. I was planning on putting furniture against the wall in the red area. Maybe a tall dresser. The master bedroom is already sort of small at 14 1/2 by 15 so I hate to get rid of that extra space....See MoreTheresa Janssen
