Comments (15)Sue, it all depends on the LED retrofit you install. FYI, I'm not sold on LED. They have some promise, but they don't yet match the efficiency of the best CFs (some are significantly worse), and they cost a LOT more. And all I've seen have been quite directional, so not very well suited to anything but downlights. There are cheap LED retrofits, but their light quality is poor, premature failures are reported to be common, and their efficiency is sometimes barely any better than incandescents'. If you have a light which is very hard to access, buy the best LED you can afford and hope it lasts the claimed 25000 to 50000 hours. Be prepared to spend $20-50 for it. For other fixtures, I don't yet recommend LED retrofits. But ask me again in 6 months. :)...See MoreTen months w/o a period, then WHAM! It's baaaack! Grrrrr
Comments (560)Very pleased to have found this site...it’s literally the only one on the web with real women talking about what is really happening to them in this stage of life - the only one I can find anyway!! Amazing to see the diversity of experience which does not fit the textbook or what we are commonly told...I shouldn’t be surprised really, people always spread so widely to each side of what is ‘typical’ in pretty much everything. It’s reassuring anyway even if a tad strange to find it on a house decorating website. I’m 47 and might be in menopause, or Perimenopause...last period was in May and very light. Before that had one in November and a super heavy one in September - 3 weeks long and not fun. I had a D&C in October and then an iron infusion in Nov as I felt so lousy and had v low iron, made an amazing difference - totally recommend that if heavy periods wipe out your iron. No wonder women are tired quite frankly with this kind of crazy stuff going on in our lives! Anyway...I have a question to ask everyone - with all these periods coming and going, does it mean that you are still fertile, or ovulating, on and off as well? Even when in your 50’s? Has anyone’s Dr suggested they should still take bc meds to prevent pregnancy? I’m asking from the other perspective - in hopes that I might still have a glimmer of fertility - if I get any more periods :) Thanks...See MoreDriving 1200mi. w/22mo. old and 3mo old - how many days
Comments (4)I would make it a three day drive. I doubt that it only takes 18 hours driving straight through. We made a 750 mile trip when my youngest was 2 mo and the others 21 mo and 3 1/2 yo. We left at night so the kids would sleep most of the way. I don't recommend this for a 1200 mile trip unless getting up really early is your usual routine. I don't sleep well in a vehicle and I was exhausted when we got to our destination. The two older kids had slept all night and were ready to get active. My baby slept except for when she needed a diaper change or to be fed. We've found it easier to travel if one parent is able to sit in the back with the kids. The kids stay better entertained that way. Also, invest in an inexpensive vcr or dvd player that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It is a lot easier to listen to the same Barney dvd over and over again than it is to hear a screaming child. Like the others have said, plan for some stops on the trip. McDonalds may not be your favorite resturant, but a half hour at those playlands can sure be a great attitude adjuster. If your child is big enough to run around the playland while you eat, let him. It's extra excerise for him. Take his food to go in the car. This trip doesn't have to be just business. Find some sights on the trip. Someone's world record hunk of cheese or ball of twine could be that 20 minute diversion you need. I'd also recommend staying at hotels with indoor pools. Even if you don't swim, it will give your child someplace to walk and wind down at the end of the day. If you're not up to the pool bring some tub toys and bubbles. A warm bath can be great entertainment and it allows your child to relax and play without much exertion on your part....See Morehow do you get by without the old range for months???
Comments (17)Wow, we only went a couple of weeks in our new house before our appliances were delivered. I can't imagine months or years! We used a lot of paper plates, cooked on the grill (1 burner) and MW, I also bought a 2-burner (solid burners - nice) buffet thing at Walmart but ended up returning it since we didn't have the counterspace. The problem was having place to put it since we didn't have a countertop on our island, so we were cooking on 3ft of counter b/t the sink (at least we had that) and the hole for the range. The other 27" on other side of hole wasn't much use with no landing place anywhere near it. We ate on a folding "butterfly" table sitting on folding chairs for 3 months. The hardest part was going w/o a fridge - both when we moved, and in 2006 when fridge died in our old house the first day of school. We had to rely on a couple of coolers, lots of ice, and neighbors with space in fridge we could run over every other day to get our groceries from to put in cooler. If it had been longer than a week or two each time to get delivery, I would have bought undercounter fridge....See Morebeaglesdoitbetter
