Fire up the grill. Use the MW. Have an electric skillet/griddle. Use your rice cooker. Start a takeout menu binder. Pop in on your brother just before mealtime. ;-P OK, that last one is only an option if he cooks as well as mine and should be used no more than once a week.

Seriously, though, you can make great meals with the stuff I mentioned. I served friends coconut & almond crusted catfish w/ mango salsa cooked on my grill's side burner when we were without a kitchen. The grill is your friend.

We demolished our kitchen and then ran into some financial difficulties so everything had to be put on hold - for 3 years!!!!! I made do with a hotplate, an electric skillet, a microwave, and a toaster oven set up on the table in the dining room, and of course, the grill. For cleanup, we used the utility sink in the laundry room. It wasn't fun, but it worked.

We are going into week 4 of our remodel. Prior to demo I cooked for about a week and froze chicken parmesan, spaghetti and sauce, mac & cheese, taco meat, cooked ground turkey for chili.
I have used the crockpot for chili and Italian Sausage (for subs). I left out my toaster oven, microwave, crock pot, electric skillet and George Foreman grill (It's been too cold and rainy to get the gas grill from the mini barn)
I have not used the skillet or grill and cleaning the crockpot in the bathroom wasn't too much fun :(
We have ordered take-out and kept the local fast food places in business :)

We are lucky. Our remodel should be done this week and I will get my kitchen back, so it's only been 4 weeks without one. Oh, and my sister has had us over for meals also!

Used the microwave lots - bought packages of instant potatoes that are cooked in the microwave, ring bologna can be cooked their quickly too - otherwise the grill works if the weather is good. You will get through - had to wash dishes in the basement tub for over a month too. It's worth it in the end.

Been about a month here too. Lots of MW, Toaster Oven, Grill and eating out.

I'm crossing my fingers, but I think we are going to get our sink, range and dishwasher installed tomorrow.

we were without a kitchen for 5 months July 5 to just before thanksgiving. We were assured the cabinets would be ready by July 6 the day after I nuked the old kitchen.
Finally got them round the end of Oct or 1st of Nov, as I recall. We put old Fridge on patio, fortunately we had a bbq with 2 adjacent regular gas burners (DCS), and like the other poster here, doing the pots & Pans in the bathroom was a pain alto I did buy a faucett that arched above the sink--more than a normal one---we still have that faucett in there and really like it--no bending over to wash hands. We didnt even have a microwave as the old one was built into the stove, and I gave the old stove away.

We do live in S Calif so weather was not a factor.

As the others have said, it is doable to do without a range. We've had to use a burner we got from Walgreens'.
Pictured here at walgreens It lasts an amazing long time. Get a timer too so you don't leave it on though. We bought a second one but we have to be careful about the circuit breaker overloading.

I also use a toaster oven and crockpot very frequently so not a great loss for us.

Oh by the way, I wouldn't recommend the more expensive burners you can find on Amazon or other places. We tried one and it hardly lasted any time at all.

Wow, we only went a couple of weeks in our new house before our appliances were delivered. I can't imagine months or years! We used a lot of paper plates, cooked on the grill (1 burner) and MW, I also bought a 2-burner (solid burners - nice) buffet thing at Walmart but ended up returning it since we didn't have the counterspace. The problem was having place to put it since we didn't have a countertop on our island, so we were cooking on 3ft of counter b/t the sink (at least we had that) and the hole for the range. The other 27" on other side of hole wasn't much use with no landing place anywhere near it. We ate on a folding "butterfly" table sitting on folding chairs for 3 months. The hardest part was going w/o a fridge - both when we moved, and in 2006 when fridge died in our old house the first day of school. We had to rely on a couple of coolers, lots of ice, and neighbors with space in fridge we could run over every other day to get our groceries from to put in cooler. If it had been longer than a week or two each time to get delivery, I would have bought undercounter fridge.

I have a T-Fal electric grill/griddle combo that is working out great. Add to that the BBQ and the microwave and most of our cooking needs have been met. The crockpot is waiting patiently for some use, but I have barely any space for prep in the temp kitchen so we're eating a lot of meat on the grill + veggies done in foil on the grill or done in the microwave. So far, so good! I cooked the juiciest roast chicken I've ever done on the BBQ the other day actually. I even surprised myself!

My fiance and I are joking about how it's like living in a 'small european apartment'. There are obviously annoying aspects to the situation, but I've got my eyes on the prize.

I bought a Fagor induction one burner to test last year and have been using it through the reno. Warning: any induction burner is way more expensive than the Walgreen burner. Any one burner helps. I had originally planned to do my reno. in the summer and would have used my 2 burner propane stove outside.

I think you will find that having a range in the middle of a renovation will be difficult to deal with.

How about a butane camp stove? They are small and portable. I have been thinking about getting one and using it in the garage when storms take the power out for a few days.

We're onto month 2 and I've been making good use of those never-used appliances such as deep fryer, panini maker, pancake griddle, etc. You become VERY creative. I'm also amazed at all the food that can be cooked in the microwave - I was always one to just use it for reheating.

I will be very glad to have my oven/stove top back though!

we're about 6 weeks in in, and if it weren't for the lack of an oven my husband would have never invented homemade BBQ pizza . . . literally pizza cooked on a pizza pan on the BBQ. It does amazing things to the crust and is 10 times better than stove pizza.

You just learn to work with what you have. It actually gets fun!

You can do a lot of things with a Nesco roaster oven. I have a big one that will hold a large turkey (or bake a 9 x 13 cake) but also have a couple of the 6qt. size that gets a lot more use. It's really a versatile appliance so don't think of it just as a roaster. Soups, chili, beans...also, one good thing is that you can crank up the heat so it's much faster than a slo-cooker.

We survived pretty nicely for 9 months with a large toaster oven, a electric burner, a toaster, a microwave, and a crockpot. We didn't do any really fancy cooking, but we were fine with the basics.

Lots of good advice from folks who have been through living without a kitchen and survived.

justnotmartha, I cook pizza on the grill too. It can get a little messy, but it really comes out great. I got the methodology from somewhere on weber's site, but I can't find it right now.

Also, you can save a lot of time by just going to a local pizza restaurant and buying the dough alone for around $3.
