Seems you have a foot at the end of the tub. If you have the ability to move the wall a foot and make it 7 feet you'd have a two foot linen closet. That's usually sufficient for towel/accessory storage. Need more storage, move the wall out 18 inches.

Thanks!! At first we were talking about putting open shelving there but I think I need to place for messy stuff. It will be a deep closet. The depth of the tub. Do you think that is a problem?

It will be 30 inches deep (the depth of the tub). Maybe a bit deep, but I'd just put some baskets in there for the smaller items. Then you can just pull out the baskets.

Once you get the framing in there for the linen closet, it will be too narrow to be useful. And probably would look weird, too. Just wall it up and find a space for a linen closet elsewhere.

Is this bath for guests or for the kids? The two purposes call for different types of storage

If it’s for guests, Maybe take out the wall at the foot of the tub, and add a deep ledge.

If it’s for the kids, either the ledge or that pull-out is awesome.

Trust me, you do not want that to be a deep cabinet. We had that in our old house master bath and it was so impractical. We took it out and made a ledge when we remodeled the bath.

I anticipate mostly grandchildren but I really need to maximize storage with our drastic downsize. There is a pool so I would like to be able to keep pool towels in there toilet paper etc

You can scootch the door closer to the vanity so you can make use of the wall for 12” deep linen cabinets. Don’t forget towel hooks, though. Maybe on the back of the door.

If I am widening the room to 7 fr is there any merit in moving the entry to the bathroom so you don’t see it from the hallway ?

Shifting the door away from the hall will help make it more private. Especially if the hall leads to a common room.

Before going to great expense or expenditure of time, how much linen will your guest need? I would guess a bath towel, hand towel, and washcloth per guest neatly stacked on the bed at the onset of their visit would suffice.

Do you need a full tub or would a shower suffice? A shower would allow for a normal size linen closet.

We removed the tub from our master so we do need a tub. There won’t be any extra expense as this is new construction. I’m wondering if I could put a cabinet front for a door rather than a full 18 inch door to free up some space.

There's little to gain in having this wider than 5.5 feet - especially when you are fitting a tub or a ready made shower pan. In front of the toilet - just get a decent hanging wall cabinet. Or a pair of school lockers - I grabbed 2 and put them in my new pool bath. They are 18" deep and have a ton of storage.

Love the lockers! I think the advantage widening to 7 ft would be moving the door to the bathroom from the line of sight from the hallway. It will be our only guest bath so don’t want it to feel cramped

If you do it 7ft wide - look at options for reconfiguring the layout as well. You should be able to do a tub, sink, and toilet along a 7ft run, so you may have more options in other ways to place things.
