Should installing an island range hood be pretty straightforward?

Our home was built in the late 80s and the exhaust over the range is just an exhaust fan like you'd find in a bathroom that is vented out through the roof. The fan operates on a single pole switch.

We would like to install an island range hood and I'm just trying to get a grasp for whether or not it should be pretty easy. Given everything seems like it's already in place (in terms of ducting, etc.) is it just a matter of taking out the old fan and bracket and mounting the hood chimney?

Also does it matter that the current exhaust would leave a 15" x 15" hole in the ceiling upon removal? Most range hood chimney's I've seen seem larger than that, but I've noticed most say in the install to cut out a circular hole for the vent hose. Any downfalls to having a bigger hole?

Thoughts/advice? I'll pay if for an install if necessary, but it seems relatively easy. I'm just not sure I'm missing anything.

Thanks!
