How about putting a ceiling in the closet? Would solve your lighting problem and reduce dust in the closet. If you stick with recessed cans, maybe try to find one with a deep black baffle. Depending on where the bed is situated, it may eliminate the glare from seeing the actual lamp (bulb). The con is that depending on ceiling color, a black baffle may stick out in your ceiling. The other option to reduce glare is an alzak reflector. Also use a lamp with a narrow beam pattern; even narrow flood might be okay. I agree. I wouldn't want pendant rods blocking my view out the window. Are wall mounted lights an option? You may lose some closet space, but it would definitely solve your problem. Be mindful of placement and bulb type to reduce the chances of burning something. Hmm..wonder if it's against code. If you go this route, I would still have ceiling cans so you don't end up with a dark ceiling over the closet.

Part of the problem is that the walk is too narrow for the porch; it should widen as it makes the turn towards the house. Also, though it's hard to tell without a picture of the whole front from a greater distance from the house, I think the bed between the walk and the house should include the entire space. with larger masses of plants, including groundcovers. Obviously, the Miscanthus grasses are very unhappy in that location. There are grasses that might be happy there, but you should be looking for plants for shade. BTW, whenever you request plant advice, you MUST include your zone and general location. (I'm guessing eastern US, zone 5 or 6 but it's just a guess)

Trying to interperet what you did. Removed old switch which controlled both and installed new switch which controls both separately? New switch must be limiting the light output. I am guessing new switch should be swapped out for two separate switches, use the old switch for the fan and a new standard switch for the light (or LED capable dimmer if you want that). Requires a old work double gang box and cut the drywall for it to fit.

Print as a poster 11x14 or 16x20 So, they can be seen easily from the table. You can always change your posters as the season permits. You could convert an image to B&W and tint it to suit your preference.
