Vinyl click flooring issue

Hello all, long story short I’m in need of some outside opinions. my contractor installed some Rok Plank flooring (stone composite) and it looks like where the pieces on the left side and right side are raised a bit. Is this issue his fault? Can it be fixed? the flooring has the pad on the back side of it so I believe it is considered “floating”. It is going over oof hardwood floors. Let me know if you guys need anymore info. I have attached some pictures. Or am I being too nit picky ?

It can be either the contractor's fault or a manufacturer's flaw. Take a few loose pieces and connect it together. If, there is play. It is a mfg flaw or design. The contractor can have damaged the profile when tapping the pieces together, causing the boards to improperly lock to each other.

So, we had a bunch of seams and showed a video of the flooring separating once clicked into place by hand. Maybe this is related? they gave us new flooring and now this is what it’s doing.

just had the allure installed with a budget kitchen remodel. so far, so good! my GC had recommended it, a floor guy for 20 years, and he was/is impressed with it. i used the higher end cherry as i was looking for a color match to the oak floors in the other rooms. i have no comment to give on the durability...but it is guaranteed for life in residential settings. so far...so good. i like the "cushioning" it gives after having the 70's blue floor tile when we bought this place in june. ;) the only issue was make sure they click together...we had one that kept missing. of course we had none left so another box had to be bought. probably a good thing for "just in case" down the road. ;)

Wow. Ok. Where to start. First and foremost the SHEET vinyl is the only one that can brag about water proof. If you have leaky pets or leaky people, this is the go-to product if water PROOF is a requirement. Sheet vinyl requires a professional install which is normally quite reasonable. The costs grow with the subfloor PREPARATION costs (where are a separate line item that may not have a "final total" until the job is complete). The click together vinyl planks are all the rage right now. Some are DIY friendly - but most are quite picky about technique and take +++patience to learn how to do it right without breaking the click-edge. It is possible to do this yourself....but it requires an understanding that you will have a STEEP learning curve. Be OK with that. The cost to install the planks is a little bit more than laminate flooring. Again the costs go much higher once subfloor preparation is added in. Again, this is a separate line item that, as above, might not have a final tally until the job is complete. The "flatness" quotient for vinyl planks is extremely important and can be considered outside the comfort zone of many long-term DIYers who have tackled several different projects. Again, it is possible to DIY....but it takes quite a bit of time to learn the skill/trade. A professional can have most of this done before you have figured out how to work the self-leveling-compound (which is not self-leveling BTW). Is there anything else that you were looking at for information? I've just touched on the two biggest differences between the two products. I didn't know how much info you were looking for.

I have vinyl plank with huge dogs in my walk out basement where they have free access to a large dog run it has been in for 11 yrs and still looks awesome. We have a laminate on our main floor that looks like slate and has also stood up to the brats for 11 yrs there is no way wood could have handled all that abuse. IMO laminate or vinyl plank in good condition is better than scratched up wood floor that would have to be refinished before sale. We now have a great pyrenees as our 2 old dogs have passed away and he really is rough on floors , no wood could possibly stand up to him.The pic is the laminate floor and the old dogs

Try brushing it out with water. If, that doesn't work, brush it out with a approved cleaner. You have a textured surface, brushing is the only way to remove trapped dirt and stains.

No more seams. This is just lifting a bit on the left and right sides.

You have square edged planks. That is to say the edges of the planks make a 90 deg angle = super tough to get level.

And the red flag no one is mentioning: "It is going over oof hardwood floors".

That is NOT good news. Vinyl and hardwood finishes do NOT like to work together. The vinyl reacts to the chemical finish on hardwood and the finish on hardwood reacts to vinyl (chemical reactions).

Then you have the MESS of a water proof/moisture proof floor sitting ON TOP of wood. That's super bad. Wood will always 'breathe' off a bit of moisture. Always. That moisture is usually taken up by the air circulation in the house = no big deal.

But you add in a vapour barrier like vinyl flooring and you have a big problem. That moisture from the wood (aka...coming from below the vinyl) is going to hit the bottom of the vinyl planks and it will DRIP BACK DOWN onto the wood. And it will do it forever and ever and ever. What happens when wood gets wet? It rots.

Now you have an unholy wet mess that will partially reactivate the wood finish and that finish (now a little bit made liquid) is going to attack the underside of that vinyl plank. Whatever staining (yes...wood finishes STAIN vinyl and vinyl stains wood finishes...an ugly 'deep nicotine' orange) that was happening is now going to speed up - into over drive.

Please, do NOT leave the hardwood in place. Please don't do it. You could ruin BOTH floors in one fell swoop.
