Gap between trim and floor

we removed carpet and did the hardwood floors. Now there is a gap between all the door trim and floor. Is there a fix for this? We do NOT want to replace any door trim at this time. (We were thinking of stuffing it with wood filler and painting....)

No, there is nothing shy of the Band-Aid you mentioned which will be messy and probably not attractive as that is a lot of wood filler.

As millworkman states, the 'fix' is new trim at the floor level. A finishing carpenter can do this for you. You could trim off the door frame and continue the wall trim in it's place. It is a very handsome look...but it is $$$.

If that is not something you want to do, then go ahead and do a paint patch on the bottom of the trim and then ignore the gap. There is nothing you can 'stuff' in there that will be appropriate. Anything you throw in there will PREVENT a nice 'fix' in the future. You will make an ugly (but functional) situation worse. How bad could it be? It could be so bad that it effects both the hardwood finish AND the wall. It could be that bad.

Just a paint touch out and then leave it alone. Anyone who is lying face down on your floor in your doorway saying "Dude! You didn't do the door right!" is probably having some other type of issue.

Sadly, a lot of the kitchens that you see on Houzz are not designed for cooking. Or bathrooms for getting clean and brushing your teeth. They are designed for maximum visual appeal, regardless of function. And in many cases, regardless of code. How many bathrooms do you see with chandeliers over the tubs? The manufacturer is very specific in this case, and that specificity is incorporated into the local code by default. You need the tall backguard against a wall. The only way to install that with an island backguard would be to reframe that with steel studs and cement board. Then you will still have the issue of your backsplash material potentially scorching. Because if you look at a kitchen that cooks, the stainless back guard is discolored by heat.

The "L-end-cap" molding is what is used at exterior doors. It does what you want it to do. Normally you can purchase these products in 8ft - 12ft lengths. You may have to purchase from a door and moulding company rather than Big Box.

gap between interior trim and wall

Long story short, we have had all the windows and doors in our new construction home removed and re-installed as they were not installed per manufacturers instructions the first time. The interior trim has been replaced and there are certain areas where there are significant gaps between the drywall and trim, not consistently through, but enough that is troubling. Some are at header piece and others are along side trim. How should these gaps be dealt with? Also any idea why they are there on some windows and not others? Thanks.

We recently renovated our daughters bathroom, I found some quarter round made from vinyl... used it to trim around the tub and ceiling... super easy to use and gives a nice crisp line. If the gap is to big for quarter round there are other options. Honestly... the contractor should take more pride in his finished work...

That doesn’t look like much of a gap. Having said that, would I be lying on my belly on the floor performing cosmetic surgery on it? Absolutely. But I’m REALLY good at it. 😬

The damaged paint is more noticable than the gap. Just repaint and have it look nice and leave it be.
