New house facade help needed
Comments (15)Good advice all on getting an architect to re-draw the front elevation if I'm going to change it up. Love the term "builder's delight." And I've seen some mongrel looking houses and they give me the willies. m3d, I will be talking to the builder about all of this soon. I am just anxious to have something in my mind that is workable before I talk to him. I think it is better to have something that is well thought out rather than a lot of vague notions. Y'all are helping me see what works, what might not work, and why. Finally got a picture of facade #3. Do you think the portion that extends out could be clad in something other than brick? Maybe stacked stone? Maybe brick with a slurry on it (although I'm skittish of slurried brick - I've heard it eventually peels off). Maybe just brick painted? If I go with #3, do you think the interior of the little entryway ought to be clad in something contrasting? There is a house in my neighborhood that is painted brick except the interior of the entry and it has been left natural brick. I like the contrast on that house, but if I have brick on the body and stone on the jut-out, and something else on the interior of the jut-out, is that just "one sequin too much"?...See MoreNeed help designing fireplace facade.

Comments (9)I like your brick better than the painted ones, so if you['re selling soon keep in mind that the money you spend may actually turn off some buyers rather than enhance the value of your home. Appearance aside, some buyers believe that painted brick requires upkeep, and you'll be unlikely to be able to have the conversation to convince them otherwise. Attractive landscaping would improve your property's appearance. Some of the existing shrubs would be a good background after pruning, so don't start by pulling things out. I can't tell what your shrubs are from your pictures but some evergreen shrubs like yews can be easily shortened, e.g. the shrubs in front of your windows. And most deciduous shrubs can also be pruned to avoid unattractive bare lower branches....See MoreHelp with house facade!
Comments (7)Really like your porch; sad to see it go ... unless, of course, you're adding the entire porch to the living room and then adding another porch in front of it and redoing the roof on both areas at the same time -- if, of course, that is not a problem because of weight bearing walls. What is the third /last pic? Where is it in relation to the current porch? Is it on the right side of the porch and all those windows are a part of what room? Is the two story building to the left any part of your home or is that the house next door? Could you post more pics of the exterior of the home from different angles? Could you create and post a floor plan of the living room and porch drawn, to scale, on graph paper, with doors and windows shown? Bumping for the pros: architects and decorators and landscapers....See MoreSherry8aNorthAL
