Help with exterior of house - color, siding, trim?
Comments (2)The garage and it's poorly thought out bump up torpedoed the Colonial Revial facade long before the new windows ever did. No decor changes will fix what feels wrong here. It's an architectural issue, not a decor issue. You might as well go with the direction that the home currently trends toward, which is modern, especially since you aren't going to change the windows. I think if you redid the roof as a flat roof and concentrated on "color blocks" and other rectangular and linear shapes, you could manage to pull what's there to the modern side. You could also redo the garage bump up area by making that roofline shorter and smaller and "nest" into the main gable end rather than being on the same plane. Turn the windows into dormers and do the whole addition in a darker color for it to recede from the main box of the house and that would take it back to the more traditional side. You would still need to change the windows to a more traditional muntin look or add muntins to the existing windows....See MoreFacade Help. Wooden tile for exterior facade?
Comments (7)hi all, sorry my bad. Failed to mentioned that the house is not in the US, that's correct. It is located in SouthEastAsia. Perhaps our building methods are totally different in this part of the world. No earthquake/hurricane or anysorts, so i suppose we are built all bricked up. In case anyone is curious here are some previous construction pics Anyways i have consulted my architect and they have given a green light in using the wooden tiles as part of the facade. Might be using the GDW12 or the GDW15. It does really looks like real timber print & texture Will share more pics when the house is in progression with the tiles & alucladdings. Hmm..is my thread on the wrong sub-forum, does my thread needs to be moved to the 'Building a Home' category. CheerS!...See MoreI need help changing my exterior facade and brick color!
Comments (12)Here's a Georgian new build which is a bit similar to yours. As you can see, it's the classic Georgian red brick color too. Don't change it. It also has a front gable (what you call the triangular thing on the roof). I wouldn't change it either. Very expensive to do so since you are basically rebuilding the roof, and it won't improve the appearance of the house. You see there are no shutters either - your house has no room for shutters on some of the windows. The trim is cream vs white which you may consider if you are painting anyway, but I wouldn't go to the trouble if your trim is in good shape. Have a look at the railings. Black vs your white ones, and they go up the side. Metal looks best. That's the only change I'd make if you don't like yours. Or just paint yours black so they do not stand out so much. However, if you put side railings then the pots have to go somewhere else because someone using the railing needs to be able to hold the railing all the way up the stairs and not be stopped by the pots at the top of the stairs. You have a beautiful home....See MoreHome exterior help - Modern Farmhouse type style
Comments (32)Here's some information about sliding windows. In a storm the exposed track fills with water and if it doesn't drain fast enough water enters the house. I've seen it happen in a test chamber. The fact that they are cheap is not enough of a reason to put them in a house. And little burgers are known to cause indigestion. Life is not fair....See MoreFlo Mangan
