How about some hooks or a rack for guests to hang things on, and maybe a low chest or credenza for a suitcase? Something to keep guest linens in . . . I keep mine in an old antique doll crib, but some kind of big basket might be cool in your space . . . like a basket bench, my folks had one of those.

What about a small TV? Guests might want to watch the news and relax a bit before going to bed.

I agree with just adding art on that wall. I wouldn’t add more decor on the nightstands — guests might need room for their phones, a drink, etc.

For the vase, I’d do interesting branches, like curly willow or something.Or leave it empty.

The vibe is already great — calm, quiet, comfortable.

I like the look of mirrors behind table lamps. A storage ottoman could be a hiding place for guest towels and a good place to sit and put on shoes. Maybe a floor lamp in the blank corner or a fake palm or other “tree”.

Pretty room. How much space is at the foot of the bed? I'd consider moving the dresser to that wall and placing a mirror above it. Add a luggage rack. Nothing else is needed on the nightstands. Love the idea of hooks somewhere. No fake plants, please. And, make sure there are accessible outlets near the nightstands to plug in electronics.

Thank you for al the suggestions! There isn’t room at the foot of the bed for anything but a walking path. So, I can’t put anything like the dresser or an ottoman on that wall.

Keep your accent color - gender neutral.

@sparkleivy yes it will make a difference. The eye likes things in odd numbers. Right now all is blue and beige. The room is very stark to me. I know you've worked hard and it is lovely but very matchy matchy right now. If it were mine I would widen the curtain rod and add another panel to each side. The curtains need to look fuller. Stack a couple of hardcover books under the lamps to make them taller. Guests need to feel welcome so add some softness.

Art on the empty wall and you are done No silk or fake plants ever anywhere. A guest room should be like a 5 star hotel room and IMO yours is great. The empty vase you fill with fresh flowers when the guests are due to arrive . The foldable lugge rack is a good idea and I also aways add a throw for the bed just in case. IMO a TV is not a must since most peole have a laptop I have an espresso machine in mine since most of our guests are early risers and don’t want to make a noise in the kitchen. I agree the lamps could be taller to make reading in bed work. I usually have a basket with the essentials in it just in case along with a couple of magazines . Ihave guest bathroom so all the other needs are in there.

Your room looks great! A few final touches and it will be perfect. Someone gave a good idea about books under the lamps! That will help. I think the mirrors behind them could be nice too. I would also add art to that blank wall. Looking for a piece may help you figure out an accent colour. Also, the dresser is crying out for a real plant lol. There is one for everyone. Even someone with a lack thumb. What direction does your window face? If it’s north facing you can find a ton of low maintenance plants. I think greenery would really help in that room.

Have you thought about a different light fixture or do you need the fan? I noticed some aqua in your art over the bed. You could try that for an accent

When guests come, I intend to put out a basket of snacks in the room. Hadn’t thought of a mini espresso / coffee machine. 👍

Re: the lighting. The lamps are cast offs from another room so they’ll stay for now. I intend to replace them when I find a ceiling fan I like. I don’t want to match but I want to consider coordinating. I know designers have ceiling fans but I love the breeze they provide. :-)

I do agree greenery is needed. But, other than a cactus I don’t know what I’d have the time or interest in to keep alive. 🥴 Why are silk / artificial considered such a faux pas? Genuinely asking.

Most are dust collectors and aren't fooling anyone, like the fake fiddle-leaf fig that became popular a couple of years ago.

I love the blue in the room so rich. You've done really well. Definitely agree that a huge picture at foot of bed would be great. Agree with earlier suggestion to see if you could bring the accent colour in there. Add nothing to side tables and I'd even suggest taking away the middle thing on the dresser.

Not sure if you'd have space but chair in the corner with pillow in accent colour or tall vase in accent colour with or without branches (can't kill those :)

If you can remember to water like once per month you can do a snake plant or ZZ plant. Both need very little light in case you forget to open the blinds sometimes.

I agree with jck910. I painted our master bedroom a dark blue and decided to make just a small section under a painting that had a soft pink in it. With a white table and pink and white flowers. Faux of course, I could kill plastic with kindness.

It looks like the space might benefit from taller lamps, lighter curtains, and a blanket at the end of the bed. Note the artwork on the wall as well.

@bandd design - no, lighter curtains would be a fail as the wall is light. In your photo the light curtains are contrast against a dark wall which makes them pop. And I think BW photographs of random people would detract from the peaceful mood I’m trying to create. But thanks.

you really have done an outstanding job. I would be delighted to stay there. (It;s not all my taste but it's done so nicely and works).

I like the idea of an extra lamp ( floor lamp in a corner?) and maybe something with minimal but extra storage like the hanging racks could be good. I could see some little touches of a pale pink or peach for warmth.

Overall it's just tweaking it but I think it looks great.

Could you make the curtain rod slightly wider so the drapes have more room when they’re open without overlapping the window? Right now they look a little smooshed together when they’re closed.

No one else has suggested getting rid of the decorative pillows, so I’m going to! A guest will just look at those and wonder “ where do I put them when I’m actually using the bed? Is it ok to put them on the floor? Or I guess I can put them on the dresser, but that leaves even less room for my stuff”.
The room is very nicely done, but remember guests have STUFF. And they would much rather have lots of surfaces for their STUFF than have to worry about how to shift the decor items, pillows etc to accommodate it.
Leave the decor for the walls.
I have heard the suggestion that you try out your guest room - but not just sleeping there. “Arrive” with luggage, toiletries, laptop, books, phone and chargers, purse, clothing etc etc and see if the room works well in real life. Everyone will appreciate the nice aesthetics, but they will appreciate the practicalities even more

Thanks again for the suggestions!! The guest room has a full bathroom and empty closet. Also the drawers in the dresser and nightstands are empty. If they are bringing more “stuff” that that holds, they are probably planning to stay longer than I want them. 😂😂😂

I’ve debated on art work vs TV on the wall. I worry that the guest will have to stare at whatever I put on the wall opposite the bed and want whatever it to be restful vs. annoying and distracting. I’ll definitely look into some of the more calming abstracts that many of you have shared. Perhaps a TV would solve the issue - takes up visual space, isn’t distracting when off. Hmmmm...

@sparkleivy, it's a beautiful and cozy room. I agree that the lamps are short, and since they stay...maybe stack some books under them to add height. Guests could even grab a book to read from the stack.....

As for the plants, I think if fresh plants aren't your thing silk plants do attract dust. I don't have them in my house, maybe try succulents, they are pretty easy to grow. I agree with fresh cut flowers for when guests arrive.

That wall across the bed doesn't need much, and if space is limited what about some fun ornamental hooks, that guests can use for shirts, hats, jackets? These were just an idea. The tree ones look fun, and earthy and are an interesting design all on their own. The birds were whimsical and may not be your thing, but just thought these wall hooks could be both pretty and useful.
