Window coverings for kitchen/dining
Comments (25)LOL terible in my finished kitchen thread you said (re: window treatments): "Here is a visual of what's in my head.......unless you decide to go naked." I could really make some jokes about that statement but its funny enough "as is". I am sure your choice of the word naked was intended to be a little funny but if you combine it with the first part of your statement... hillarious. Igloo, I dunno you are gonna have to whip out those fancy photoshopping skills to try to convince me becuase right now I am siding with abbycat, which is what I had in mind at the point I started the thread (roman blinds wood style). mlraff... that is a nice idea, I've bought window coverings at potterybarn before and they are "OK" and cost more than something OK should - too bad I can't get a sample since they state they don't have those in the store. The dining window is 58.5" wide so I'd have a .25" gap on either side, assuming they were 58" wide (the pottery barn stuff I bought before was slightly smaller than stated). Abbycat do you know who makes woven wood in the roman shade style? It looks like these bali ones are: Bali deluxe woven wood. But its too bad they don't have many wood choices in that line that would work in the space. These might work, but it might be too much texture: and maybe this but it probably draws too much attention to itself. Even though I am not so wild about the wood choices for the Bali shades I do love this bound edge color for the dining space:...See MoreFridge covering part of the window
Comments (9)Thinking kitykat, and planning or err to the side of caution we made quite a bit of change to the original design. It is now a G shape. The two blue rectangles are columns (and the reason the fridge was covering the window). I tried to put all the relevant measures in feet (we use metric here). What do you think? We thought about getting rid of the sink counter (making it a galley shape) and moving the sink to the same counter as the cooktop. The bad thing is it become a bit more cramped, the good thing is that I get rid of "countertop corners". We also played with the idea of removing the auxiliary laundry closet, moving in the fridge and putting an island but my wife didnt like the island idea. Comments (7)les917 - Not that you shouldnâÂÂt want window coverings, but more that I want you to stop feeling so creepy about it. :-) Thanks for the encouragement ! In my last house I had a ton of windows but none that were to my back. Most were in front of me or to the side. I'm now living alone so that's part why I feel "creepy" about it. Also, my new neighbors do seem alittle to nosey. I was there the other day and since I didn't have a doorbell installed yet, I looked up and there was one of my neighbors looking into my window to get my attention. Another neighbor said, Oh I see you have your kitchen installed - well, the only way you can see that would be too look into my window. PRior trips to my home I would arrive and people would be inside looking around. I had to tell the realtors of the plan that I do not want people coming into my home! Now that I am living alone - I've become more of a private person. I don't want people to know where my bedroom/bathroom/family room is located. I think it's more of a security issue for me. I'm now more on "display" in this new housing plan and I don't feel comfortable w/people knowing my business. God forbid when I actually start dating - they will probably question me about that too. When I was renting in one of the condo's - people would even ask why I leave a window cracked, why do I tie my dog outside, who that man was, etc....See MoreQuestion about window covering in kitchen
Comments (5)Design Girl, we have done a lot of renovations. The fluorescent light in the kitchen has been replaced with LED. The cabinets were painted white and have chrome pulls like these now. (Both choices were less expensive and since we are topping out at $75K for our renovations we had to cut back some things like a complete kitchen gut reno because of taking care of necessary safety issues with other things.) The counters and backsplash are the same. The faucet is new. The flooring is LVP and is white with some grayish in it. Unfortunately, Linda, privacy is an issue. I will live here alone and am not comfortable have uncovered windows anywhere. While it is quite safe I tend to freak out at the thought of "what is out there" after dark when I have a lot of lights on....See More
