Question about window covering in kitchen

I just bought this mobile home in a fabulous senior park. The home is from 1978, and we have spent the last 2.5 months in renovations, some large ones for safety, others for decor. The windows are all going to have drapes, mostly custom.

The valance was removed at my instruction on this kitchen window. We were going to leave the blinds that were there up until I could afford something I liked better but due to a leak all the windows are now being replaced with new double-paned ones. The blinds were taken down, and now because of the new windows we are not re-installing them because they would hit the window frame due to being too close.

So, what kind of window covering would you suggest for the kitchen? The entire kitchen is primarily white now (BM's Chantilly Lace), and the secondary color is green throughout the home. (I am in love with emerald.) I do cook but the cooktop is not next to the window. The vintage O'Keefe & Merritt wall over is staying as it is in perfect condition. And the window is right above the sink.

I loathe beiges, tans, browns, olive greens, etc. I don't think we can use shutters as today's versions (3 1/2 or larger) are too big for the window sills. (I'd love them though.) What ideas do you have?

Give us more information on the changes you've made. Have you painted the cabinets Chantilly Lace, or replaced cabinets, or are they the same. What about the floor. What about the suspended lighting and backsplash. We need more specific information on what's been changed before we can make any suggestions.

I see that the window is under an outside awning. Would you consider leaving the window uncovered, to let in the light and keep a clean, uncluttered look? Assuming that there are no privacy concerns ..

Newbie question about hard frosts & covering sprouts

Last time we had a frost like what's predicted tonight after I had sprouts, I dropped a plastic tarp (actually a couple of painter's plastic drop cloths from Home Depot 'cause they were cheap) over my whole wintersown area. I pulled it off the next morning before the sun got too high and all was well. Two years before that, we had a very late March snow and heavy rain. That year I went to the trouble of actually putting a couple of sawhorses around the edges and draped the drop cloths over them as protection for the whole area because I had a lot of containers with sprouts. When I only have a few containers with sprouts and a frost is predicted, I moved just those containers into the garage and back out again the next day. I don't know if any of this was really needed, but I figured better safe than sorry. Any one have a less intensive response that worked?

Marti- What we have right now, in our main windows, are floor to ceiling 'quick sew' drapes...basically hemmed on top and on a pressure rod. They are bump out bay windows, so each side has 4-30" windows. While these curtains are not exactly elegant, they do keep the heat in and are very easy to clean and remove, if we want to look out the whole window, in the summer. For the farmhouse, I'd like to get wrought iron rods, that go above the window, and use a little nicer, floor to ceiling drapes. I was thinking about something like this, for the living room. In the kitchen/dining room, probably a valance over the kitchen sink (maybe with a blind) and valances above the french doors. It would be nice to get some color and pattern on that wall...and with the door opening into the sunroom, the fabric wouldn't be in the way of the door opening. I need to get my blue in there, somewhere! :) In the sunroom, probably some kind of blinds...something that open very easily and lets in all the view! I know I've shown this picture before, but i really like the way the light shines in and there's nothing blocking the plants from the windows. Very bright and airy. In the bedroom, I would like this type of window seat, but with clear, not leaded glass, windows. Probably valances at the top, maybe with a drape on the outside, that closes off the entire window seat...the kitties would love that!

We have no pics, but we got Hunter-Douglas honeycomb-type for our bathroom, cordless, with a remote. They work beautifully. The remote is nice because you don't have to lean across the bathtub (or in your case, walk across the room) to put them up/down. There's a lifetime guarantee. We can sit in the tub and look at the view outside with complete privacy, just what we wanted.

Carolyn, thanks for reminding me. On gothic covers, it is all about the house! Then there is the one lighted window -- it has to be a high window, at least on a top floor but preferably in a turret if there is one. The funniest cover I've ever seen shows the typical 'young thing' (this time clad in a costume that looked straight from Star Trek) fleeing from a house . . . no, wait! Is it a house or a rocket ship? There's an obligatory light high up in the nose cone if the rocket ship was standing upright. I'll never give a spoiler, however. Actually, I don't remember what the cover was meaning to convey. Speaking of cliched covers: In the 1950s and '60s, my father enjoyed hard-boiled detective books (e.g. Mickey Spillane and Erle Stanley Gardner) and thrillers, such as those by Ian Fleming. He kept them up on a high shelf in his closet. However, I had big eyes and readily observed the main tropes: usually a man with a gun -- always fully clothed -- and a scantily attired or naked woman with strategically placed bits to suggest her most alluring features. I asked my father why the men had clothes on but the women did not. My mother overheard this uncomfortable exchange and said that she had to smother her laughter over daddy's disconcerted explanation. To think, though, the same men who thought the covers of books aimed primarily at men existed with good reason, but bodice-ripper covers because they were aimed at women were abominations. Oh well! The double standard still exists, but it seems to be watered down nowadays.

Design Girl, we have done a lot of renovations. The fluorescent light in the kitchen has been replaced with LED. The cabinets were painted white and have chrome pulls like these now. (Both choices were less expensive and since we are topping out at $75K for our renovations we had to cut back some things like a complete kitchen gut reno because of taking care of necessary safety issues with other things.) The counters and backsplash are the same. The faucet is new. The flooring is LVP and is white with some grayish in it.

Unfortunately, Linda, privacy is an issue. I will live here alone and am not comfortable have uncovered windows anywhere. While it is quite safe I tend to freak out at the thought of "what is out there" after dark when I have a lot of lights on.

I will have no pictures until Wednesday, Design Girl. My realtor, now friend, is coming to take "after" picures the day before the moving company shows up. But I can post them the next day. (I'll probably be much too tired to do it that day.)
