Jasdip ... I've heard the expression several times, including from a radio host a few days ago, that

"trees are the lungs of the world"!

But as I considered that, I think that they've got it wrong, backwards, actually.

Trees take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.

Lungs take in oxygen and produce carbon dioxide.

So, trees providing an essential service for the lungs, the expression should be amended to something like "trees provide a service required by/essential to the lungs of the world".

Or "trees service the lungs of the world".

They ain't no producers of oxygen = they ain't no people (or other lunged critters).
