If you have plenty of storage elsewhere and/or a fairly large kitchen, deadening out a corner may be OK. However, as Madeline616 specifically stated, this is a small kitchen. Small kitchens typically are short on storage, so even an "inefficient" storage area is better than no storage! Personally, I find that corner susans are more useful than the blind corner cabinets (and you don't need a small child to retrieve fallen items!) for base cabinets and easy-reach cabs to be more useful for upper cabinets...both with a 90-degree corner (i.e., no diagonal), but to each his own. (For uppers, height may be a deciding factor...I'm 5'10" and can reach into the corner easy-reach cabs fairly well.) In my experience a corner cab of some sort is standard (susan, blind, easy-reach) - if you want to eliminate that corner storage, you have to tell the KD or cabinetmaker you want it eliminated. Did the cabinetmaker include extra stile width on the sides of the cabinets to accommodate the filler that's needed in cabinets installed in a corner with a dead corner? You need either that or significant filler to allow the doors/drawers to open and clear the drawer pulls/knobs on the other side of the corner. The corner cabs mentioned above provide "natural" filler... Personally, I'd get the cabinetmaker to make a corner cabinet of some sort!

The t v? Huge! Assuming you don’t want it to remain on the floor... You (not I) would build this temporary wall in that wasted space …(you have to figure out how to get the power in there and be able to the walk around each end)…one side for the t v and the other side providing more counter space for the kitchen area. Which is great when you have company…you can use it as a drink bar first, and then as a serving bar. The big window is great, but permanent, so you need no egress. Putting the sofa in front of it removes only the view from the bottom…which isn’t so great, so no loss. Now..ta da…you have a sofa facing t v, and the rest of the space is left for you to fill.

Well, the under stairs plan is dead in the water. That wall is load bearing, and we would have to frame the opening with a beam. I don't think we are going to go that far. I am also realizing that we don't have enough counter space or prep space. I'm considering changing that double patio door to a tall window and single patio door. Then I can wrap around that corner and get space for countertop appliances that desperately need to be near the sink.

I think a built-in or a console is fine. I think a console would likely be less expensive. Really, a built-in is going to be just the shape of a console. That is all you can fit. As far as option 2, Yes, you would have an issue with the sofa the way I am showing or with flipping the sofa with the chairs. Design is not always perfection and involves compromises. I suggest you might have to spend $ on something going forward -Is that a bathroom? If so, the door must swing out. If not, can you change the swing? -How a bout a new sofa that is more compact.? The width of the room is a matter of math. You have 155". 155-89=66. With the current sofa, that gives you a total of 66" for door swing for both doors. What is the total of door swing for both doors total?
